There is no simple answer to that question. First, you have to decide to start running, which probably happens in the cerebral cortex of the frontal lobe. Eventually it gets to the pre-motor cortex, which is part of the frontal lobe, then to the motor cortex, then down through the thalamus into the brainstem and onto the spinal cord, nerves and muscles. During this whole process, the cerebellum serves to regulate or control the movement. When you finish the race you could have a variety of emotional reactions and different parts of the brain are associated with different emotions.

Also, you'll probably be watching where you're going during the race which involves the optic nerve, optic tract, optic radiations, occipital lobe (where the visual cortex is), sensory association cortex in the parietal lobes, as well as several nuclei in the brainstem that control eye movement.

And you'll be listening for the gun at the start and cheers at the end, which involve all the parts of the brain involved with processing sound.

Essentially, you use pretty much the entire brain.
