I would have to say the Naval aviator. A helicopter is very hard to fly so it takes a lot of a lot of skill. But the aviator really needs special talent to be carrier qualified. They are doing a controlled crash landing on the deck of a ship.

A jet is more stable. You can take your hands off the controls and the plane will fly itself for a minute or two. With a helicopter, you must make minor adjustments with the controls constantly. The jet may look easy, but landing precisely requires a lot of skill, as does flying in bad weather. The helicopter looks impossible, which is why people are so impressed, but people get helicopter licenses in about the same number of hours as airplane pilots. A novice helicopter pilot requires superior judgment to be safe. The novice jet pilot need not resist the temptation to land in a friend's tree-filled backyard; the novice helicopter pilot needs to know whether he and the machine are capable of landing off-airport.

My brother-in-law was a Marine Corps pilot... he had to qualify and get so many hours in helo's before he could fly jets. Not sure if it's still that way... that was many years ago.
In any case, one of the other posters is correct... it's like comparing apples and oranges. You can't compare driving a 4-wheel drive through the mud to driving a high-end sports car... they serve two very worthy purposes... and both are .. well.. necessary, I suppose... but one is not "better" han the other... and neither driver is "more" skilled... they just have a completely different skillset because the vehicles are used for different purposes.

The equipment operates differently. Both can do obsured things with their machines though. For instance fighter pilots can fly for miles within a few feet of each other at over the speed of sound. Guys with black hawk helicopters "land" with half the chopper hanging off a cliff or building so the troops can get off. Apache pilots fly over 120 mph just over tree tops at night. Jet pilots can pull over 9 times the force of gravity with their gear. It's harder to control a helicopter than a jet (which requires one hand and both feet), but it's probably easier to land a helicopter than a jet, especially at night with rough seas.

That jets require more awareness of equipment is a myth. Helicopters are more difficult to fly because they have more vibrating parts and more things that can go wrong and cause them to crash.

I think you're comparing apples and oranges. Both have very challenging aspects, but it's hard to compare fixed wing aircraft and rotary aircraft. They operate on different principles and require different skill sets.

It is really two different types of flying, like comparing apples and oranges.
