Tell him what they are.The dogs testicles.PART OF HIS ANATOMY.Then point out the dogs leg, tail, ears and so on.Then get him to name the dogs body parts. He will have a much bigger vocabulary and will grow up much smarter then just telling him its his balls or something like that.

I'm sure your nephew recognizes (even at 6 years old) that he too has these "balls."
Tell him this is the dog's special and private area. Since the dog doesn't wear clothes (like your nephew) they stick out. Tell him that the dog is a little sensitive about having people point them out and that the dog would prefer that he (your nephew) not talk, bother or even pay attention to the dog there in this special area (in case he gets more curious).
Not an envious position to be to bring up the birds and bees with a nephew. You might even want to consult the parents in case a similar question was already asked about other pets/animals.
Good luck.

Your nephew is a boy so he knows the things he is asking about.
Tell him it's the part of the dog which makes him the male dog. You can ask him if he knows the part of him which makes him the boy instead of the girl. You can do this without touching the dog or him.
At six years old, boys talk about this, they talk about this at 2 and 3 years old with their mother. Take it up with her. Ask her if she has a given name for his anatomical parts "privates" and could she relate to him you do understand his question, you just don't know the comfortable term he has for his part of this.
Don't be sorry, it's a dog.

Just tell him that its the dog's private parts. I think at 6 years old he should be able to understand that.

Just tell him that the dog has to have those so that he can be a daddy one day. Six year olds are not asking for specifics, so always answer the in general terms.

I get these questions from my 3.5 yr old daughter about my baby son's parts. I believe in just answering honestly, but cleanly. Tell him it's part of the dog that makes something that he gives to a girl doggie if they decide they want to have babies.
However, you need to consult with the boy's parents before answering, or refer him to them. If they want to go the honest route, tell him what I said. If they want to make something up, tell him that it's where he makes poop before pooping it out.

Since your nephew is six years old, he probably has a good idea and just wants confirmation that the dog has a penis and scrotum, like him.

tell him the truth , that its the dogs penis and that it is how he goes to the bathroom just like he does , that way he is informed and its not inappropriate to use the proper terms
then tell him that its not polite to talk about those parts outside the house

tell him that it is a thing of dog and he should be worrying about it... and if he still asks, ask him "what do u actually want to know".......coz he will then speak a different answer oriented question....... and time will tell him what he was inquiring.......... dont stuff his mind with anything u wouldnt love to coz his mind is fertile and developing

tell him they're testicles. They are what make the dog a boy.
or tell him to ask his parents
or look up developmental stages of small children and the things they understand.
