I normally advise people to read Matthew after John but you say it is hard. Try me favorite book, Luke he has a way of explaining things that no other can match.
Father God I ask that you reveal you Word to your child and allow them to read with understanding so they may grow in you Lord. In Jesus name, AMEN.

I was always told to start with the Gospel of John. Then read the Book of Revelations and Genesis and Revelations again. The ending explains the prophecies in the OT and the future to come. Genesis explains the woman and the dragon and the 4 horsemen and such in Revelations. Genesis gives you the beginning geneology and Moses and his importance. Then go back to Revelations to see how Jesus is the second Adam and the second Moses. After that I went to the OT and just read through the books. I highly suggest getting a commentary or if you are Catholic, get the Catechism of the Catholic Church, it explains the Bible in detail with much of the history of the early Hewbrews and Christians.

I agree with my brother Stone. Try the book of Luke...written by Luke the Physician....he was also a friend of Peter and later traveled with Paul....He also wrote Acts. Which you can see as you read it where he uses we when he's with the apostles and refers to them when he wasn't with them.
Heavenly Father, send your Holy Spirit to help in the reading and understanding of Your word. In Jesus name. Amen.

I would go with Mark, or with Acts. Mark is the "action" gospel--the stories move fast and focus on doing, and you see more about what Jesus did. Acts continues the story of the church after Jesus' resurrection, and how the disciples coped and learned to lean on the Holy Spirit. Feel free to contact me if you have questions

Read the book of Genesis. In it, you will read about creation, how sin entered the world, the world wide flood, Abraham, etc.
The Bible is a very credible book and God chose to get His message to us through it. Many people are changed by reading it. It is historically and archaelogically accurate. Ask God to guide you.

Your premise is you find it hard to understand reading one book of the Bible.
Let me read to you Proverbs 1:23,
"Turn you at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit upon you; I will make known my words unto you. "
Some people don't understand or find it hard to understand the words of God because they're not followers of God's will and commandments.
They don't like God's reproofs.
In order for you to understand clearly the Bible and the words of God, you should be first willing to obey God's commandments.

Stranger in a Strange Land.
Interesting ideas.
I found "Fun With Our Family" to be a very easy read, it's about our friends, Dick, Jane and Sally.
