Time is relative to points in space, so it all depends on how quickly the universe expanded, where the earth was in the universe, and an inconsistent reading of time.
No one can really prove how old the earth is because no one was there.
Scientists can try to predict the time of the earth, but carbon dating won't really work because there's no way to tell how much carbon decayed over a period of time, so you can't know what the original amount was.

God did create a mature universe. meaning that although it is quite young,10,000 years old at most, it was created to look a lot older.
When we think about this we have to remember what it says in the Gospel of Matthew, "With God all things are possible."
