I just concentrate on what I need and go by the moon signs (theres a lot more to it).I do some simple spells .I have never been happier than I am now.My great Grandma mother who was born in 1861 was said to be a witch.Thats not why I decided to become a wiccan,It because I have always felt drawn to the faith,I love this earth, the stars and everything in and around it.I never understand why the god I was raised to worship would want us to suffer before we could go to heaven, when this world was as beautiful as it is
.Do we really need all that stuff? Now,I do believe we need candles.
Many blessings.

No, you don't.
Tools are a means to an end. There is no power in the tools. Casting a spell consists of coloring or charging energy and sending it out into the world to magical effect. Many of us, especially beginners, like to "set the mood" for spellwork with colors, stones, etc. that relate to our purpose. This works on our subconscious to help charge our personal energy appropriately. If we have trouble with the concept of sending out energy or focusing it, a wand can help with this, but it's not necessary if we don't need it.

Some of us actually find the tools distracting and a detriment to our magical work. If you have a good control of your emotions, if you can actually feel the emotions of a situation you are thinking about (ie. if you cry at movies, esp the happy ones) you will probably actually have better luck with magic if you just use visualization rather than messing with all the tools.

You don't even need candles. I use candles for worship on occasion but my Gods prefer a nice bottle of honeyed wine dumped over the alter much more than a candle lit for them. As for general worship, prayer, etc. it's the same as any other religion. You just pray. It's all good. The tools represent different mysteries, you can learn about these just as easily through visualization too.

I would like you to understand that Wiccans are not Witches, and Witches are not Wiccans.

"Wiccan" refers to a follower of the Wiccan faith, started in 1950 by Gerald Gardner and since branched off into other denominations.

"Witch" refers to anyone who uses any form of Witchcraft, which could refer to a Wiccan, an atheist, a Christian, or any other person of any other faith. Witchcraft is unaffiliated with religion.

And no, neither Witches nor Wiccans REQUIRE ritual elements to perform spells, but for tradition's sake, and to add power to their focus, most choose to.

This question sounds like it's more about the practice of witchcraft than the religion of Wicca. There are many different kinds of witchcraft. Some require tools and others don't. It sounds like you have found a form of witchcraft that works well for you and that's great!

why the candles and nothing else? (just curious). i personally believe, that all the trappings are just tools to help us focus our energy. if you are able to do that without the perfect incense, or that great amyethist stone, more power to you. it is for many wiccans the rituals that we do that focus our power. i practice both ways. i enjoy my alter and all its articles, but when i was in court, trying to prevent my grandson from being taken from me, i wasn't able to say " oh ,excuse me while i draw my circle light my candles and incense and call the quarters, honor the lord and lady, bless the cakes and wine......ect" so it all happened in my head. I've been practicing for 25 years or so. "and it harm none, do what ye will"

We don't really NEED all those things. Over time you probably will acquire the ritual items that are meant for you. If you buy all at once you may find that some of the 'things' don't mean that much to you but, bought,or received, piece by piece over time your items will tend to have more significance to you. Also you will, over time, learn what you do and don't use.

No. Those objects are merely symbols to help you focus your energy and thoughts. If you are good at this, you can cast very effective spells with nothing at all. They are only things that represent ideas. This goes for candles too, but if you like them and they help you (even to just set the mood) then have at.

They are helpful for people who have trouble focusing, but are not essential. I'm sure parts have more symbolic meaning depending on what tradition you are, but even then it's just a means of keeping your thoughts and energy on what you are doing.. There are some traditions that are pretty strict.. but it seems from your question that you are following your intuition, so go with it.. If it feels right then it is working for you..

After reading all the details added below your question, I'd have to say that you're a wannabe witch, or very flustered in your search for something to believe in! And I gather this opinion just in the phrase 'studying wicca'... you either feel it in your soul or you don't! You either practice it or you don't! I would suggest that you research other religions such as Buddhism and so forth in your search to quench the thirst of your spirit! As for wicca and the tools in casting spells, all of those can be found in nature ie. a wooden twig floating after a storm in a creek to be used as a wand, and yes you need candles in opening a circle... but if you want to succeed in the powers of your spells ever working, yes you need them, even if their similations of the real thing! ~Brightest Blessings and Merry Part!!
