I'm a fifth generation Mormon (actually descended from 4 of the original 12) and all of my great great grandparents were Mormon. Actually some of my great grandparents were related so two sets of my great great grandparents were the same people so I guess its easy for me to have all Mormon great great grandparents.

Anyway, I can't understand why people make a big deal about our prophets practicing polygamy? That was back in the 1800's so who wasn't practicing polygamy then? Our religion is the one true religion so don't belittle it OK? We are the only complete Christian religion that follows both Testaments of Jesus Christ and not just the Bible.

First, who were the "original 12"? The church was started with only SIX members.

Second, how could two sets of great great grandparents be the same people? Mormons back then might have been polygamous, but I never heard that anyone was allowed to marry their siblings.

Third, no one outside our church practiced polygamy. They practiced one wife, and one or more mistresses. Easier that way, because if you have one wife and a string of floozies, only one break up would entail lawyers and all that. Some wives could be kept in the dark, others didn't care. And the men? I mean, it's true, right, why buy the cow when you're getting the milk for free? I mean, look at it this way:

Brigham Young had, what, some nineteen or so wives. And FIFTY SEVEN children! Now, all these wives knew about each other and knew each other, and he had to keep them all happy! at least half, if not more, actually LIVED in the SAME HOUSE together! AND 57 children to support!

Did you know that, at one point in time, Brigham had 10, count 'em, TEN, teenage daughters living under the same roof as HE did! And people are ENVIOUS of this? (wow, I want ME nineteen wives! different one every night, etc etc.) Do you honestly think Brigham Young said, "Wow, ten teenage daughters at the same time! Can't WAIT!"

Anybody will say that their religion is the best is the right ones, but WHY NOT!
I agree, why any body should belittle any other's religion? Let any body believe or disbelieve what they want.

All Books was written , practically lately.
At least bible on paper/ in writing were not exist in year 30AD; and what was written at the beginning been translated and interpreted , that is why I believe Catholics, Presbitarians, Protestants, 7 daysAdvents, Mormons, Anglicans etc each have their own teachings.

Polygamy? Is that worse than adultery? Even if polygamy is still happend now, if the persons involved in it are not objecting and happy with it , why should others complain? Mankind have their free will, they can reject anything they dont want to, if they are too weak to do it, they can ask for help; if they are too weak to ask for help then accept it or simply run away , if they are too weak to run so be it. Haha

My point is, dont feel belittle ; People will say anything they like, it is a free world.

Histroy of a religion is a hint at its present thats why people worry about the past events in a religions happenings. As for why people think polygamy is still an issue is probably because mormons arnt exactly totaly hip with the womens lib movement if you ask me. The man is almost always the leader in the religion and its rare for the women to be as respected spiritualy imo. I say these things as having had a taste of mormonism but only a taste.

Your religion is the one true religion??? By saying this you deni all other religions truth and this is generaly not a good way to make friends on a religious field. Of course the mormon religion isnt really about making friends religiously its more about passing a test to prove to God your worthy of God imo. Again just a taste of mormonism.

Many would argue that mormons are not true christians because they follow a book that most christians by a long shot do not. The book of mormon and other holy scriptures the mormons have say many things that people of a christian faith might not and probably dont believe. Basicaly mormons are percieved by me and some other people I know as really uptight about who they are and how they act to others. Its like a fake mask that has been worn so long it has become that persons persona in almost every relationship. That is how I see it not the truth in other peoples eyes possibly...

I really do hope this answer has helped you to realize what some of the down sides people see of your religion are and possibly you can correct them and/or correct yourself and the religion. Of course only prophets are suppost to do that in your religion correct? So I suggest you talk with a prophet if this is the action you might take.

No other faith in the 1800's was practicing polygamy, except the Muslim faith. So I don't get that statement.

But as for people continuing to bring it up, they do so out of ignorance. The same reason they think Atheists believe in satan.

They can't fathom the idea that they are wrong. It was what they were taught at some point, and they don't research for themselves. They just keep saying the same garbage over and over again.

Glad to hear all about your private life.

Doctrine and Covenants Section 132 has not been struck, deleted or modified, therefore it's still doctrine. The church has publicly implied "Polygamy is wrong", but has never stated Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Joseph Fielding Smith, etc, were "Wrong" in their proclamations.

Also, you might want to try it "Mormon Style": Man on top, Woman in Kitchen.

You follow the parts of the Bible that are convenient, just like any other church. It isn't important that the LDS/Mormon church used to practice it, but what is important is that it is still a mormon doctrine. A man can be sealed to more than one woman, but it doesn't work the other way around. I was taught as a LDS/Mormon that many of us unmarried women (like Sherry Dew) will end up as one of many polygamous wives in the Celestial Kingdom. If you didn't hide your doctrine (milk before the meat), then bringing up old news about the Mormon faith wouldn't matter that much. The LDS/Mormon isn't the "true" church, there isn't one. God loves everybody, and we all can be reunited in the next life by love alone, not a bunch of handshakes and under-garments.

The "one true religion"? If all religions who claimed that actually were, then the words "one" and "true" have completely different meanings than any dictionary claims.

It's all mythology... yours is just a little more wacky, that's all.

And not everyone in the 1800s were practicing polygamy... the Mormons made it popular. And there are plenty of Mormons still practicing polygamy. Just because the church disavows them doesn't mean they are any less "valid" than you are. They are using your church's name and claiming to believe in your church's history. That makes them every bit as Mormon as you.

If it is the one true religion, why is it that the Book of Mormon only dates back the 1830?

The Book of Mormon quotes extensively from the King James Version of the Bible, with its Shakespearean English, which was already considered archaic in Joseph Smith’s day. It has troubled some readers that The Book of Mormon, this “most correct” of books, lifts at least 27,000 words directly from the Bible version that is purportedly full of errors and that Smith later undertook to revise.

Because if you were a real christian, you would know that other christians believe that GOD, does not change and neither does his teachings, belief and anything about him, he is the same today, tomarrow and yesterday, yours is the only religion, THAT claims to change, and yet you still claim to be christian with the sdame GOD, but yet your GOD changes, how can MY GOD stay the same, but you profess to believe in the same GOD, but yet he changes??? It can't be the smae GOD.
