Will you turn 18 before he turns 23? Five years is no big deal. I can see where he's coming from due to the fact you're 17 (are you a senior). Also, your age has nothing to do with if he'll use you or not. If he treats you like a kid sister in front of his friends, or if he doesn't even hang around you with his friends, then you're nothing more than a passing fancy and you need to stop things where they are.
But again, to the heart of your question, it's not a big age gap.

Yes, it's a big difference. 18 and 23 is less of one. And a decade from now, 5 years difference is nothing. But he should not go for a 17 year old at age 22 and if he does, he is not the type of guy you want. he needs to wait until you're 18, even if just out of respect for you to have your last year of youth and also for your parents.

17 and 22 is a big difference, just because of the law. Once you hit 18, the difference won't be so big. Age doesn't really matter as you get older. The most important thing is how you feel about each other, common interests, and respect for each others feelings.

Age is only a number and both ages far not that far apart.Let hi know how you feel, that you want to pursue a relationship with him and that the age difference is no longer a concern. People pass there opinions about everything, whether he was white and you were black, if he was 30 and you were 22, if your religion were different, just anything people are going to find something to talk about. Let them talk as long as your happy and you found someone that you can hold a decent conversation with and respects you the hell with the rest. Be happy for you not for someone else.

It is only 5 years. My husband and I have a 5 year age difference. It depends on if you are a mature 17. The other thing you have to think about is this. He is of legal age. You are not. What do your parents say. They can file charges against him for statutory rape even without you backing them. Also he can go to clubs and out drinking you can not is this going to lead to jealousy? You are still in high school you have senior prom coming would he be willing to go to prom with you? Though the age difference isn't a big deal at my age at your age it probably will lead to a lot of problems.

Well, after all, you are still in high school, right? Well, he is 22, you are 17, I am not so sure if you want to get invloved, things might happen, and I am totally not saying that they will. My grandparents are 5 years apart. I think you'll will be happier with someone your age. You may have more in common, and may understand each other more. I hope all goes well, but my opinion is that it is a pretty big difference. I hope I helped, but remember it's my opinion, so you can disagree.:)

Yeah it kinda is. But my husband is 5 years older than me and we started dating when I was 17. Your parents opinion in this is important b/c they can press charges agianst him in most states. I will tell you this though, men are way more immature than women. I need the age difference to feel like we are on the same level.

As you get older, the difference will only be in years. Where you are now is a big difference and it is to his credit to recognize this. You both may feel different when you turn 18.
