To a certain extent, the acidity in lemon juice is one of nature's most powerful organic remedies. But is will not truely lighten your skin, only cosmetics containing hydroquinone, kojic acid, or forms of arbutin has that type of power. However, I wouldn't advise it since hydroquinone can cause a skin disorder called Exogenous Ochronosis that is irreversible discoloration of the skin. This has been reported in cases of long term usage and has been know to actually darken the skin. Kojic acid is power and works but in the cases of long term use has been known to contribute to the development of cancer in the kidneys. Now arbutin is new on the market but dosage previsions haven't been made. But research shows that in dosages of 5% or more has caused irratation to the skin. I would advise using skin whitening pills that have eith L-Glutathione or L-Cystine. DON'T use any products with mercury or its compounds! Mercury has nasty side affects! If you really want to even out or lighten your skintone make sure you do EXTENSIVE RESEARCH! There are plenty of scams out there waiting to take advantage!

Yes it does, but it took a longer time to see the result but you can't use too much of it because it can dried up your skin..

Just cut the lemon into half and circulate around your face and when you're done, wash it with water. Don't overdo it. Once in a week would be good.
