The fact that the name "dachshund" is hard to read in the first place, and on top of that, anti-German sentiment during World War 1 (people in London actually stoned the dogs to death) caused a more British sounding pronunciation of the name. I'll give you both:
Proper way (German) pronounced - "Docks Hoont"
Germans also call them "dachelle"pronounced - "Dock el"
Anglicized Way pronounced - "Docks Send"
Hope this helps

Docs Hend.. you really do not have to worry I've heard it pronounced many different ways.
Everyone says it a little different we have 5 of them and you could actually probably call it a weiner dog and people would still know what you were referring to.

I think it depends on where you live at. Here in San Antonio, it's generally "Doxen". When I took my Dachshund, Heidi, with me to Oklahoma, everyone called her a "Dack-shund". In a city we stopped at on the way home, people called her a "dock-shund", or "dock-sund".
