Psalms 53:1,
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none that doeth good.

I have read the bible. You are correct that the New Testament (though not without it's flaws) is not as primitive and hateful as the Tanakh (old testament). There are a few stories (in the old and new testament) that I like.
But don't miss the point. It isn't that we are saying that every thing in the bible is bad (though most of it is), we are just pointing out the bad to get you to think about it.

It is a remarkabe work of fiction, and has inspired people to do many great deeds. Unfortunately, it has also inspired some people to do some great evil.
The bible can bring peace to some people, and when it is used for good, I don't have a problem with it.
It isn't the book that I dislike, it is what some people are doing based on the book, that I dislike.
It is the same reason, that I question the fiction book The DaVinci Code. Some people misinterpret that it is fiction, and take everything at face value, which is dangerous. And they use it as a weapon.

Jesus does teach some nice lessons in the New Testament, however there are still major contradictions, and absurdities, just like there are in the Old Testament. If you want examples, I'll give you some scripture.

It is made of quite good Indian paper.
For the new testament, remember J.C. said he was there not to change the old laws but to re-enforced the old laws? Therefore in the new testament, it is stated the old testament is right.

Yes. It is a good book with a best-selling record.
What about the New Testament?
*shrugs*
It's part 2 of the same bound book called the "Bible".

I'm not an atheist,or religious,i believe in god,but not the bible,my concern is the way you bible believers can not sit back and see how flawed the book is,BUT you asked a legit q,so i would say,i have read a little of the Koran....boring with slow stories ,i have read small parts of the torah......tiring.....i read the Mormon bible and it seemed filled with war stories, and was just non-sense,the christian bible has some good stories, with good moral values, and god does go from good to tyrant,to fibber, the whole tree of life with Adam and eve,anyways...........

It's a very nice book with some really great poetry and nice parables that illustrate good behavior (though most of it is common sense stuff that people should do anyway).
For the record, atheists aren't mad at god... we just don't believe in him, like you don't believe in Santa. Are you mad at Santa and that's why you don't believe in him? Same thing for me.

We aren't ticked at God. We just think it's fun to point out that he isn't the loving god that you guys claim.
And it is good for heat on a cold night.

They often say things like "its a book with a lot of good lessons and wisdom"
