The Bible is literally the Word of God. That is the basis upon which the Catholic Church compiled the Bible - texts that could absolutely be declared divinely inspired, vs. texts that could not be so identified with certainty. But that doesn't mean that every passage is meant to be taken literally. Many passages are obviously metaphorical in meaning. Such passages still convey truth but they are not literally true.

Catholics believe the Bible is divinely inspired and some things are told to make a point. Don't think God actually told the Israelites to slay people. This was the writer's view.
Now if a Catholic goes to Sunday Mass for 3 years straight, he hears the entire New Testament from start to finish. Some are not aware of it.

i'm a Catholic. in accordance to my faith, on an identical time as the Bible is definitely the artwork of human minds, it is divinely inspired. subsequently, although the unique authors have been writing and thinking of their very own contexts and cases, the message they carry about includes the underlying salvific truths that make the Bible the observe of God. there has been too plenty interest given to tiny information of the textual content. The Bible could desire to be seen and consider as an entire, as an entire artwork that communicates to us an hardship-free message: God loves us. each and all of the fuss approximately the different information stems from a desperate form of fundamentalism that relies upon too plenty on a literal interpretation of the textual content to furnish a step-via-step technique to get to heaven. The Bible became into compiled around a century after the dying of Christ. A council became into convened to sift interior the direction of the present literature that have been written approximately Christ via that factor and make sure which of them have been consistent with the verifiable practices and ideology of the Christian people. If an excellent type of books have been skipped over, that became into because of the fact those have been deemed inconsistent with what became into exceeded on via the Apostles and subsequently seen deviant/heretical. The Bible has been concern to abuse from people who tamper with it to experience their very own ends, subsequently the abundance of translations. My faith teaches me that the Holy Spirit, who guides the Church, ensures that the middle salvific truths of the Bible are preserved for the period of translation, or some thing to that effect. The Vatican works to maintain the Catholic version of the Bible as as much as date with cutting-edge scholarly analyze as available. some people have self belief that the Bible is the literal observe of God the two because of the fact they are poorly catechized or because of the fact they are fundamentalists. Which, i think of, quantity to the comparable concern.

To be honest with you, I didn't learn anything from the Catholic church about the bible. I felt like I was supposed to be more loyal and devoted to the church instead of God. I apologize to any Catholics out there but I stopped going years ago because I got nothing out of it at all. Maybe it is just me.

For example, I think that since the creation story wasn't witnesses first hand by the writer(s) of Geneses, I'd interpret it metaphorically. The Gospels on the other hand, were written by eye-witness, therefore, I interpret Jesus' life LITERALLY>

I grew up Catholic and basically- we were not taught to believe the Bible- even though the priests would quote from it.
We were taught to believe in the Catholic organization- and put our trust in it.
