Why can we not tickle ourselves? I am one of the most ticklish people ever, someone can't even get within an inch of my feet, i can't get foot rubs, pedicures, or anything. But I cannot tickle myself!!! Anyone out there know why this is?

There has been some research on this topic. It is believed to be part of socialization and society. Put another way, it is a way of connecting with others. That is one theory and not necessarily a fact. One study caused a random delay between movement of a feather and the command given to move the feather. With the delay, a person did experience a tickle. Without the delay, the person was not tickled. Sorry I cannot help more.

Our body reacts by increasing our adrenaline which gets us hyped up and excited when we know we're going to be touched/are being touched and we inturn become more sensitive. The same reason why when a woman gets turned on her body naturally lubricates itself, because she knows she going to be touched. Touching yourself...its not the same.

I think it's because when someone else tickles you, you aren't quite sure when or where they are going to do it - when you do it, you know what, where, and how you're going to do it.
Just a thought.

coz you know where your hand is going if youre tickling yourself and that makes you aware that you cannot laugh if you tickle yourself.

Because we can't really feel it if you get what I mean..in other words our brain can't really sense our movements. Weird, huh? Same goes when your talking..sometimes you might say at a recording of your voice, "thats my voice!?"

Tickling happens by suprise, when you do it yourself, you already know what is gonna happen, so it doesn't tickle.
