Hello, I'm the ignorant Canadian, and I was wondering if someone could interpret this verse for me.
I'm a christian (apparently one to be punished); is Allah going to come and kill me or what... This verse supports the whole terrorist thing... Was the Koran secretly written by Americans to appease the people during the war on terror...

Those who disbelieve and those who disrespect God's religion and his prophets will be punished. That's all. And the verses that you see like this refer to the pagans who were ruthless and completely uncouth. They spit on the Muslims over and over, so that is why they get punished. In the Quran when it says disbeliever it means the pagans (they attacked Islam, Allah, and his messenger).
And only God can judge who goes to heaven or hell, so I'm not going to comment on that part of your question.

I am not a muslim or of any religion.
When interpreting the scripture you should include the whole verse, and not edit it to change its meaning.
You will then read it is a message about God's instruction to the Angels, not to the people:
8:12. Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."
8:13. This because they contended against Allah and His Messenger. If any contend against Allah and His Messenger, Allah is strict in punishment.
8:14. Thus (will it be said): "Taste ye then of the (punishment): for those who resist Allah, is the Penalty of the Fire."
There is only One God. If you read all the Scriptures, without preconceptions or religious interpretations, you will find that Allah, Jehovah and the Being Jesus refers to as "My Father" are all One, as all the followers of the Books should be.

It does what it says on the cover. If you don't believe you get decapitated (making the fingertip amputation fairly superfluous I would think!) That there are equally nasty bloodthirsty punishments advocated in the bible is no justification. From the tender mercies of the true believers may the good god deliver us! If he's still there and listening of course..God!..sure he was there a minute ago..now where's that pesky omnipresent, omnipotent Deity got to now?..dang!

Stated simply it means death to all none believers by the sword. i.e. you either convert to Islam or you die by the sword of the believers i.e. Muslims.
Example the Muslims cutting off the heads of their prisoners on TV..
They believe the Koran gives them the right and duty to kill all none Muslims.
