Insurance Sales people are the reason I have such a difficult time in the profession I have been called to. You see I am Insurance Agent, my calling is my profession, and that is to help people who have a desire to protect their loved ones, their businesses and the dreams from financial desasters. My role as an agent/advisor is to help people understand what their true goals and dreams are. Many times when I sit down whith new clients they are rigid and stand offish because they are waiting for the "sales presentation," and never comes. Instead I ask them many questions that at first seem to have nothing to do with insurance or financial planning like, "where do you see your self, your business and your family in the next 5, 10, 20 and even 50 years from now?" Or especially for business owners, "If you didn't have to come into your place of business tomorrow, who would you give the keys to?"
These questions don't get asked enough in my industry, all too offten I am looking at my clients financials and they don't have enough insurance coverage because some agent was just trying to make a sale and move on to the next client. But so called Financial Advisors in many cases are no better... they are often times the reason that these people don't have propper insurance or estate plans in place, becuase if they did it would take out too much of the money they have invested with the FA. Also when it comes time to start taking money out of the investments that where made for "retirement plans" the FA's have a hard time giving that money up because their renewal commisions are based on assets undermanagement.
My advice to people is to work with individuals who can and DO offer both services of Life insurance and stocks/MFs.

Insurance products are sold and not bought.
Do you know why?
Most people buy insurance bcoz of 2 reasons
1: They really love their Loved One
2. The PERSISTENCY of an Agent
If without an agent I can say most people on the street will not have a protection plan
We must be thankful that Insurance Agents spent so much effort and time to convince us. so we must be grateful
Thank god

They really shouldn't be looked at as salesmen. It would be like calling real estate agents, salesmen. Insurance agents are there to help you with questions, explanations, and will give you views on insurance companies. There are many types of agents actually. Some will answer the phone when you call a company direct. There are others that are independent, and talk with many companies. Really you just need find one that isn't too eager to sell you, but more eager to help you.

Well, I've worked with A LOT of them. The professional ones are GREAT to work with, the ones looking for a paycheck are not so great. Just like every profession - you have a few stars, you have a lot of duds, and you have all the people in between.

I'm not particularly found of sales people of any nature. The less pressure you put on me the more likely I will be to purchase something more after careful study and thought. Outside of their work who I am to decide since I don't know any.
