Are all Marine Recon soldiers skilled in Demolition? Or is that a seperate field? Is Recon like any other individual military branch, they have different fields in infantry, 'mortar, rifleman' etc. Can someone explain? I don't quite get it. Also, where are marine recon soldiers nowdays? I know in Iraq, but doing what?

OK here is your first lesson NEVER CALL US MARINES SOLDIERS! 2ND RECON is short " for Reconnaissance" and being Recon is a a job in the marine corps but to be able to do it you have to pass very very tough training. The ones that normally become part off Recon are normally infantry Marines. They are skilled in many things
Also what they do is classified is not something civilians need to worry about.

Recon was originally just that. Soldiers trained to get in close and gather intelligence. Artistic ability was actually required to draw maps and diagrams.
Sorry didn't answer the question. No not all are demo experts although many will receive training. The primary mission is still recon, but the modern recon soldier is also trained in other disciplines. Nearly all will go to language school. The physical requirements just to apply are the same as Navy Seals. All Marines are trained as infantry, even the lawyers.
Where are they? Wherever the Marines are going they will be there first.
Some people have the mistaken belief that Recon and Sniper are the same thing, different jobs and training.
It has only in the last few years that Recon has been included as special ops . Previously the Marine Corps position was all Marines were elite, there was no " elite " group within the Corps. The Corps changed that position I believe because they were not being used for those types of missions.

Want to apologize for the soldier reference. I know better. Son of a 30 yr. Master Gunny

Marine Recon are spec ops from my understanding there the marines version of navy seals or the Armys green berats and so on .. So every soldier would specilize in a differnt field such as demolition, weapons and other fields. But thats just what ive been told
