It may be in some areas, but I live in the Southern U.S., and religion is huge here. Most churches I know of, my own included, are getting a lot of conversions. Because of a continuing influx of people from other areas, there are also increasingly more non-Christian religions to choose from. I know a lot of the local atheists, but they're rather statistically small in number compared to the number of people who openly profess religious belief. Even the largest atheist meeting I've seen around here had far fewer people than the congregation of even a small country church, much less the many hundreds of churches in the area put together.

This is the second time in recorded history that religion has gone into decline.
The first time, the findings of Greek, Arabic, and Egyptian science put the gods of Olympus into serious doubt as the explanation for earth's mysteries.
Christianity was grabbed as a lifeline by Constantine to destroy rational learning and scientific progress and revert control over people's thinking back to a central authority--himself and the Roman Empire.
His success caused a huge surge in religion. The bumper crop, Islam, has carried the gains of the mystery religion even further.
Now, however, science has been explaining more and more of the 'mysteries' that religion holds so dear, and scientific breakthroughs have been much more exciting and positive for humans than any of the magic or miracles of any religion. As a result, religion is again going into a decline.
Next, I predict we will enter Gene Roddenberry's 'Star Trek' type age of peace and positive growth, or we will create more (religious?) wars to put the remaining few humans back in the Stone Age, living in caves and rediscovering the use of fire and the wheel.

No, I don't think it is in a decline - unless you are talking about a specific group. I think that religion and our understanding of the world and our existence is changing - and naturally so. From an astrolgical point of view, the change was heralded by the Age of Aquarius beginning on the heals of the Age of Pisces (think Jesus fish). In other ways I think the health of our children show clear signs that we, as a race, are changing (with the cognitive epidemics we are seeing, etc.). I think we've been seeing it in the disgrace of our most prominent churches and traditionally religious institutions.
Funny, whenever I talk to folks about God they usually say they don't believe in it - but when i talk to them further they say "of course there is some kind of creative force in the Universe, I just don't think it's some guy in the sky called God or Father." That does not mean that people are Godless - it means that our concept of the creative energy is shifting and people don't want to use that overly-conotated word.
Peace!

I hope religion is declining and growing closer to Jesus is getting stronger. Today people think religion is the path way to Jesus and it is not. Getting closer to Jesus is walking the path as Jesus would. Reading His word becoming more like Jesus. Living a life of Jesus and separating yourself from the world. Yes I understand we will not be perfect until that day comes but for a true God fearing Christian, trying to be perfect for Jesus(not for ourselves or for the world) is the ultimate sacrifice for Jesus. That is not religion but a relationship with Jesus Christ our Savior.

Yes, it is in a decline. As knowledge spreads across the Internet people's eyes are opening to the reality that most God systems just do not make any sense.

Yes, by virtue of the fact that atheism is growing all over the world. That obviously means theism is declining (though maybe not all religions--non-theistic religions may be seeing an upsurge as well).

I think people are making religion to suit them . No one wants to admit sin or that they are a sinner . People need Jesus and forgiveness.

Hope so... God's truth... Christianity ...needs to be given a clear view without religion clouding up the picture!
Religion- man working His way to please God.
Truth (Christianity)- God's plan to save fallen mankind.

Yes it is, Jesus said that they persecute me they will persecute you. In end times more and more people are going to fall away from God, just like it says in the bible. www.mylordmysavior.com
