"God rules as a father heads a family and not as a dictator rules a dominion. God is limited by the laws of fatherhood. There are some things a father cannot do. God, like any good father, cannot regiment his children, for enforced regimentation makes slave minds and not free characters. God, like any god father, cannot lead his children away from evil as a householder keeps her dog away from the dangers of traffic, for God is raising sons, not dogs. God, like any good father, breaks his heart when his children go wrong, but he cannot breaks the rules of fatherhood by chaining them up to keep them from going wrong. If God interfered with man's right of free choice, he would cease to be a father and become a dictator. Why does God allow war and man's inhumanity to man? Because as our heavenly father, he has to leave us free."-This is from a book from Ralph W. Sockman. I was wondering what you think of this passage?

Yuri: If a son asked his father for something he truly needed, his father would, yes? So, praying would be, by my standards, still necessary. And again, it a book I'm reading. quite interesting.

Why would God punish his children, unless they did something wrong? And if you are referring to the "Non-Believers," didn't they choose to abandon God in the first place? And Time is long. Long enough to make and stand by your decision, ready for any consequence(s) that follow.

Amen. It makes a lot of sense. People blame God for everything, but what about taking responsiblity for ourselves.

I'd say its pretty good. But I wouln't suggest God has limitations. He is not forced into a corner on the issue of our free will. It is His divine plan for our existence. Freedom of choice is a divine gift. Both a blessing and a curse.

Jesus says that a believer can ask for anything through prayer and receive it. He even goes so far as to say that mountains and trees can be thrown into the sea simply by praying for it.

So what's the point of praying, after reading this paragraph?

It's just reinforcing a literal intepretation of understanding God as written in the Bible. It doesnt do anything to promote intelligence, innovation, empathy or self awareness.

God, like any father, subjects his children to eternal punishment and torment.
God, like any other father choses to punish the children he don't like and reward the ones he likes. (Romans9;18)
