I am not catolic but I would not be thrilled. I would ask them what language it was. When they inevitably respond that it is the language of God, I would ask..."Ok, What did God say?" The gift of toungues is the most abused and misunderstood of the gifts of God. Sadly it has been relegated in many churches to a bizzare contest to see who looks the most religious. You get a bunch of people doing this in a church and nobody has a clue what anybody else is saying. At best they are mocking the true purpose of the gift of toungues. At worst they are opening themselves to powers from the wrong side. So many people use this for showmanship and nobody dare question it or they look like they are doubters. Truth is that its EASY to tell the ones doing it to look good. But that is another discussion alltogether.
I'm real sorry... But that is NOT the gift of toungues. I know there will be people that totally disagree with me. But this is my opinion.

I'm not Catholic, and I would be a little freaked out if someone started speaking in tongues for 5 minutes before eating.

Fine, I am a charismatic catholic and I speak in tongues myself. By the way, tongues is actually part of Cannon Law and catholics are supposed to be taught that they could recieve the gift of tongues at their confirmation.

I am not catholic. But I reply. TheChristian that is speaking in tongues should read 1 Cor. 14 and see the simple guidlines they should live by.

I'd probably slap them to knock it out of them haha.
No seriously though, I'd be freaked out. Freaked out because I was hungry and the craziness of it all would get to me.

It would be O.K. if they followed Scripture and had someone there to interpret.
Did you know Catholics can even be "slain in the spirit"?
