A very dear friend of mine has recently rescued 128 little girls from Thai brothels and has put every single one of them up for adoption. Some of the children were as young as 5 years old and suffered from a variety of sexually transmitted diseases and a host of other problems. Out of the 128 children, only 25 are still up for adoption. Most of them are now with loving families in the USA, Europe, Japan, and Canada. He has accomplished all of this through his own personal effort, a mere 100,000 dollars from his own pocket (that's twice his yearly job salary) and only a little bit of outside assistance (mostly information from social service groups and former ambassadors).

I want him to be recognized for his great work and his service to humankind. Problem is, this humble chap absolutely hates the idea of becoming famous. What do you think would be a good way to celebrate this outstanding individual without giving him unwanted celebrity status? I already have some ideas but need more.

1. Some towns have a Citizen of the Year award.
2. Write your Congressman and Senators. Tell them his story. Ask them if there is anything they can do.
3. Write to Ann Curry at The Today Show. This story is right up her alley.
4. Finally, a true hero doesn't want to be recognized. Perhaps there is something you could do to raise funds to help other children at his favorite charity.

That is quite an achievement.
You can officially declare him your *personal hero*.
Sometimes people who do great things really do not want to be recognized on a large scale but of course it's always nice to remind him once in a while how much you think of his deeds.

If he truly does not want to be recognized then don't push it.

But if you think there is a part of him that may want some kudos, you can always get in touch with the local TV or newspaper. They are usually thrilled to get their hands on a good human interest story. :0)

Send the story and possibly a video to CNN. They are dedicating special pieces on Anderson Cooper to honor unsung hero's. Their website will probably tell you how.
