There are plenty of Christians who have never read the Bible either. We see it all the time from people who can't come up with any better answer than, "the Bible says so." I commend their faith in the book, but when either side tries make religious statements with regards to Christian doctrine without having any clue what they are talking about, they sound ignorant.
The one thing that I would say makes an atheist ignorant if they do actually read the Bible, is if they read it with the intent only to look for it's faults, not to gain faith or understanding.
The intent of the Bible was to point people towards the plan God has, and the central role his son Jesus Christ plays in that plan. If one reads the Bible looking for faults, they'll find them. The book was written by men, but to attribute any man made fault in it to God, or a lack thereof, is, in my oppinion, a very ignorant thing to do. No true knowledge is gained, only a callousness to the beliefs of others, and a lack of understanding.

According to "The Collapse of Chaos", which is a science book, metaphor is a step up intellectually from comprehension. Comprehension means "with grasping" as monkey's tails are prehensile. Metaphor means bearing the meaning of one word over to another. Experiment is related as a word to experience, which means "ex peril." Therefore, everybody is living as best they know how to keep themselves alive and out of trouble, one would hope. It's just that people have different ideas about what's going to work. Personally, I don't think that there's any substitute (and why would there be - if the Bible is true, then it's words are necessary for life) for the fruits of the Holy Spirit, which you pray for and which include peace, joy, goodness, gentleness, patience, self-control etc. which contribute to a positive mindset for approaching intellectual problems with. That doesn't mean that non-Christians are necessarily familiar with what the Bible says, because street-frontage Christianity has done a lot to undermine the Bible's message that each one must carry their own load. Galatians 6:4 says: "Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, wihtout comparing himself to somebody else."

HAHA, if anyone is ignorant it is the church of today.
I find that non-Christians have more of an open-mind to the truth than "Christians". I'll call them church-goers because if you really look at what a Christian is you wouldn't find one anywhere on site. If we are all to look and act like Jesus where would you find him? In a church calling everyone a pharisee! Even Jesus sent Paul to the Gentiles because the Jews didn't believe the Christ was among them.
No, it is church-goers who have it all wrong and are ignorant.
I've heard this before "it doesn't say it in the bible so it isn't true"...IS YOUR NAME IN THE BIBLE? Just go to the mid-west and you'll know what I'm talking about.
Intolerant, Ignorant, Unintelligent, Stuck up...these are not the people who are Christians because they are not Christ like.
If you want to find out how to be a Christian read the scriptures without your church telling you what they mean.

Depends. Some people just don't know what the Bible says...so yes, those people could be classified as ignorant. Other people know the Bible, but don't know the Word. That is to say they haven't personally excepted Jesus (the Word in flesh) into their heart. These people are not necessarily ignorant, more like blinded by their worldly views. And still other people know the Bible (as they interpret it, and usually to their own meaning and out of context) and flat out deny it, these people are not only blind but stupid as well. It's having the Truth right in front of your face and still not seeing it.

The answers from the Christians are so predictable and, yes, even ignorant. Most of us have better Bible educations than you do. Most of us know the Bible inside and out. Most of us are atheists because we know every word in the Bible and it's nothing but a book of stories akin to Grimm's Fairytales.

Reading the Word, and having it enlightened by the Holy Spirit of God, is two different things. One can memorize all the Word, and still be ignorant to the Truth. I guess it goes back to the "calling of God". Then, many are called, but few are chosen.
I believe the purity of the heart is the "key" to having a spiritual understanding of God...
PEACE...

Many of them are. If they would just learn the truth of John 3:16, they would find a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!
However, for other non-Christians, "'This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil! Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fears that his deeds will be exposed.'" John 3:19,20(NIV)
But in the end, ". . . every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord . . ." Philippians 2:, 10b, 11a(NIV). Unfortunately and sadly, for some, it shall be too late!

ignorant of the MEANINGS of the Scriptures. most atheists just skim over and find things that provoke their interest, and then try to argue it based on the first layer of reading. Scripture is almost never just one layer
(I have yet to find a Scripture with one layer to it)
but lacking in factual knowledge, I won't judge. I have seen some VERY ignorant atheists, and some very knowledgeable ones as well

No- just blind-sided by satan, their master.
They have no choice except to spout off rhetoric based on his mind-set, which is sad.
They are bounced around like a puppet on a string- also sad
That's why God came in human form, to feel what we feel and take the punishment we deserve for choosing satan when we were at the age of accountability.
Sin causes' death- the second death, of our soul.
God says be wise as serpents- (unsaved around their master) but be gentle as doves.
knowledge without the wisdom of Christ, who is all Knowledge- is not smart and does not get someone anywhere to help work on the preservation of the soul that God gave them and to choose their own way is not wise.
All we like sheep (following man's philosophies) have gone astray- We have turned, every one- to his own way: but the Lord has laid on Him (Christ) the iniquity of us all.
We must approach others as loved by the Lord; just darkened and trapped, and the only persuasion that will work is that we pray that the Lord will send His Holy Spirit to open their hearts, and change their minds- where the battle of the soul is actually won.
Thinking as the Lord think's takes' the Law of God to be written in their hearts now- by His Spirit, when Christ comes' to dwell in them.
This is all going to happen by the Lord's doing, not by knowledge.
No arguing wil be spirit-led.
