My brother is interested in getting a Mormon Priesthood but he is not sure if you have to remain celibate. For the Catholic one you have to. Also, my family are university teachers so I was wondering how difficult it would be for him to upgrade to a bishopricry?

The mormon priesthood is very different then the catholic one. After a certain age most active mormon men hold the priesthood, and are also expected to get married and start a family.

To recieve the Priesthood you first need to be baptised and be at least 12. (sounds like your brother is already 12, just htought I'd add that in.) We, as Latter Day Saints, believe that one needs to abstain from a sexual relationship until marriage, but to the extent of "celibrate" no. There is no specific way, or time to "upgrade" to being a member of the Bishopric. If the Lord calls you there and you accept, you are. If he doesn't then you aren't. It's not a matter of "upgradeing" Each calling is as the same importance of the other.

Dr Sanjeev;

I have examined your many questions about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ("Mormons" as you call them), and also the answers you have given to questions others have asked about "the Church".

In both cases you have shown yourself to be incredibly ignorant about the facts. You border on being a racist and a bigot. Worse yet you indicated that you also spew your ignorance to the students you teach. How unconscionable!

Kindly educate yourself about the TRUE facts before you embarrass yourself any further.

PS: For the benefit of your brother:
With only a very few exceptions, no position in the LDS church is salaried, it is all voluntary.
Missionaries DO NOT earn a salary or commission.
Bishops DO NOT get paid.
Members of the priesthood DO NOT get a promotion to the Bishopric.
It's a religion, it's NOT a job.

No not per se. If you are unmarried then you are celibate. But as a man who holds the priesthood you can marry and have children. As a married man you may have sex with your wife.

You do not have to be celibate. Bishops are called by God. It is not something you choose and "upgrade to".
