I would definitely recommend a Gentle Leader head collar. They are the most effective way to teach a dog to loose leash walk without pulling, lunging or jumping. They are easy to use and painless for the dog to wear. I've used one with my ten month old puppy and she walks very gently, without pulling. It's like she's a completely different dog!

I work at the local Humane Society and Gentle Leader head collars are the best way to control even the largest and strongest of dogs without hurting them. Once your dogs learn the rules about walking on leash, you can stop using it. You can buy one for about $25 at PetSmart - have their staff fit it properly for you. It'll be the best money you'll ever spend. You could also try an Easy Walk harness, made by the same company.

You should NEVER use a prong or choke collar unless you have been taught how to use it correctly by a professional dog trainer. These can be very painful and can seriously hurt your dog if used improperly. Don't take the risk, better not to use them at all.

Get a head collar, they're called "Halti" or "Gentle Leader". They clip onto the muzzle and around the back of the Head. They do not in any way obstruct the dog's mouth or nose, simply a nylon strap over the nose and behind the head. Since the dog does not have as much strength in his neck as in his upper body, most people call Gentle Leaders "power steering for your dog". You can find them at a pet store near the leashes and collars, or you can order them on line. Check out this website for more info and GOOD LUCK! =)

When you walk the dog, get a choke chain, they dont hurt the dog, but when they try to pull you, give the chain a small yank, just to remind them you are there. And keep them on a tight leash by your side. Just dont let them pull you around. I have a 213lb dog, i had to make sure really early that i could walk him,(i weigh 130lbs), or i wouldnt stand a chance. I still wouldnt if he bolted on me, but he knows i am boss and he has to walk beside me. Just be firm, think firm, and act it. They pick up on these things, they tend to take advantage of someone who isnt very stong, because they know they can do it and take control, just dont let them do it.

you make the dog stop and when he settles down start walking again and don't let him wander around make him focus by a tug if he does not listen try again...do not use the lease that extends out to far...

you should try a haltie. there are 2 types: one goes around their chest and another around the muzzle. the muzzle is the most affective, because it is a sensitive spot, and if you jerk on the leach, then it irks them, but it is good for training.
