I'm so sorry! Your beloved dog has given you protection, loyalty, unconditional love and more laughs than you can possibly count. He is telling you that it's time for him to go. If he could talk, he would ask you to do that for him. But all you need to do is look in his eyes and that will say it all.
You can be there with him and if you choose, you can hold him in your arms as he makes his journey to a new beginning. I have chose to do that with every pet of mine. (3 dogs, 1 cat)
I wish you all the best!

I am so sorry for your dog being so sick, but thank about it, if he is not able to play or walk, or even use the rest room outdoors with out you holding his rump, then you do not want him to suffer anymore. Have to took him to the vet before he got so bad, if so what did they say was wrong with him. If you was in his shape and hurting what would you want done? It is very hard to let go, but you are not holding on to the pet you have right now, you are holding those happy thoughts of the pet he use to be. I have just put one down that got on a aircondiern cord and bit it and he was fried, his lungs was like popcorn the vets said. I believe that was the hardest thing i have ever done. I have said no to the Dr, when my father was dieing and that was hard, but putting that dog down was worse, because i was thanking of what all the fun we had just the mins before. we was outside playing and running and having a good time then slap that happen. So you have to ask God to give you a clear answer, he will help you.You do not want him to surfer anymore. The puppy u use to know is gone and this poor pain full sick puppy has taking over.
I am so sorry for your loss, Please god bless this family and give you the strength to do the right thing.

Oh my lord you let this go on for a whole year?! Are you out of your mind? What a cruel thing to do. Why haven't you taken him to the vet?
So he cries for an hour at a time? Did it ever occur to you, o' mindless one, that he is in PAIN?!!!! Of COURSE he is depressed! Would YOU enjoy living in torturous pain like that? What is the matter with you? Can't you reason anything out at all?
What have you been doing? Just let him lay there hour after hour, day after day, months-on-end for an entire year? I hope to heaven that when you get old that someone treats you like that.
Have you taken him outside at all to get fresh air or sniff the flowers? Does anyone spend time with him or talk to him or pet him? Or does everyone in the house just let him lay there crying, while you all step over him and have dinner or watch TV?!
That poor, poor dog. To be trapped in that household unable to even run away.

Oh my God, why did you let him stayed like that for a whole year? That poor dog is in so much pain!! Put him out of his misery, I cant believe you made him go trou all that, for what you are describing he is dead in life and suffering, I know is hard but he deserves better dont you think?
I hope is not your grandma and if it is Im truly sorry, the same happened to both of my great grandparents, saddly theres laws that dont see it as something humanly to do but a murder, the only thing you can do is be by her side every chance you get and pray to God to take her with Him, Im really sorry.

It's a decision we all have to make some day. It sounds like your beloved pet is not comfortable anymore and to me if that was my situation I would have put him down awhile ago. I don't think letting the poor dog suffer for a whole year is right. Its hard I know we had to do that once with a dog a few years ago. Not something that's easy to go through but we must face it someday with our pets. If you love him you should have known what to do a long time ago with the symptoms your describing that poor dog isn't comfortable at all anymore and its time to let him go.

The most important thing to consider is quality of life. If he is in pain and there is nothing that can be done to help him, it is more humane to put him to sleep than to let him live on like that. It is one of the hardest things you'll ever do, but know it's the right thing. When I had to put my Boxer to sleep, I cried on the floor of the vet's office with her body for 45 minutes (she loved going to the vet or else I would have had him come to my home and do it.) She had congestive heart failure and we had hit the end of successful treatment. I could have tried something stronger, but it would have only put off the inevitable for a month or two. She was suffocating from the CHF. The look in her eyes when she was sedated was clearly "thank you."

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My dog was like that when he was very old. I left him lying under a blanket one day in Spring, all day. When I came back home, he had not gotten up, had not turned, and did not even way his tail when I came up.
I knew he was in pain and that he would not get better, so I knew that now was the time to take him to the vet and have him put to sleep. It was a painful decision, but it was better, kinder, more humane for him.
I thought I would mourn for two months before I adopted a new dog, but I was wrong. I knew what kind of puppy I wanted, and when I found that puppy - two weeks later - I adopted him and saved his life ... and he made me feel better.
He did not replace my old dog, but he made me feel much, much better. That was 6 years ago, in 2001, and I have never regretted that decision.

Although it is a tough decision to make - put the dog down. He has no quality of life anymore. Any good vet will even come to your house to do this. You can hold him during the procedure. It is quick and painless.
Would you personally want to live in that condition of ill health for that long? You can always ask for cremation and keep his ashes.
The most unselfish, loving thing you can do for your dog is to end his suffering immediately!

On the off chance that this is a serious question - may you one day be treated the same way you treat your dog.
But considering your other questions like:
"I am considering letting my daughter have her bedroom door back. But... Should I install a camera instead?"
"When should I let my child out of prison? I have created a prison like environment in which I expect her to thrive. She is totally in my control."
"Will there be tickets sold to witness the Saddam Hussein hanging? Where can I get the best deal?"
"Should I make my daughter eat old sandwiches? She is twelve. Somehow managed to get Free and Reduced Lunch at school."
I'm more inclined to think you're just a troll, and not a very good one at that.

Is it a mental or physical source of illness? Those could be factors. If he is ill, then take him to the vet and have him checked out. Regardless, it's always good to know. Even with age, he shouldn't be in such a deplorable condition. The only advice I can give you is to consult a good vet; and maybe get a second opinion. It's sad to make such serious, horrible decisions but if you love your dog then do what's best for him. I wish you luck.
