It depends on the State where you purchsed the vehicle. I would go back to the dealership as most dealers perform searches through carfax. If you can prove that they knew about it and the accident was major enough to diminish the value of the vehicle, then you may have a case. Let the dealership know you are going to make a report with the BBB(better business) the state consumer affairs office, the state atty general and the body that issues their dealership licence. You could also contact the prior owner to see if they disclosed the accident to the dealership when the vehicle was traded in. This will be a tough case to prove; however, I hope the information was helpful.

If you can prove the dealer intentionally lied or misrepresented the vehicle, you may have a case against him/her. However, I'm pretty sure the dealer will deny knowledge of this prior accident, so the burden of proof rests squarely on your grampa's shoulders.

Since the vehicle apparently has been repaired without any damage being visible, I'd suggest he just accept it as is.

He could also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and that may result in a few dollars being refunded.

Next time, do the CarFax thing before any moneyt changes hands or the vehicle is bought. Good luck!
