Did someone not get the memo regarding which side God is on, or is this evidence that religion is a tool of the state and does not represent divine wisdom?

While it can be comforting to tell yourself that you are doing the will of God, or that God is on your side, it will bear repeating that many people on both sides pray to the same God, believe themselves to be right, and to be doing his will. Behold, words from one of America's greatest leaders, during the time of our greatest tribulation:

"The will of God prevails. In great contests each party claims to act in accordance with the will of God. Both may be, and one must be, wrong. God cannot be for and against the same thing at the same time. In the present civil war it is quite possible that God's purpose is something different from the purpose of either party - and yet the human instrumentalities, working just as they do, are of the best adaptation to effect His purpose." Abraham Lincoln.

When somebody says that God is on my side, I'm very cautious about what side that is. Wouldn't it be better for you to be on HIS side? I mean, isn't that the whole point? If he's on your side, the who's the leader, and who's the follower?

Divine wisdom and politics? lol Thats funny. They do not mix. Gods people are all around the world in different places. I can assure you that His true people are not killing, not boasting to the world, not starting wars and so on. I think countries like to think that in some way God is on their side to make them feel a bit better about the way they kill and destroy everything and anything they wish. Including my country.. U.S. ;-) We are the worst at times.

In a many dark hour
I've been thinkin' about this
That Jesus Christ
Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
You'll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot
Had God on his side.

So now as I'm leavin'
I'm weary as Hell
The confusion I'm feelin'
Ain't no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If God's on our side
He'll stop the next war.
-Robert Zimmerman

People find that it's easier to drum up morale and motivation for their troops if they convince others that they have support from a heavenly source.

I seriously doubt that God is on anyone's side in any war.

Those who claim that he is are simply trying to justify their own actions.

Since Jesus said his kingdom was no part of the world just as he and his followers were no part of the world, it would mean those who say it are liars.

It is a political morale thing.

God commanded us not to kill, he isn't into war at all.

I guess it's a better rallying cry than "Our leaders want more territory and wealth!"
