I live in the Southern U.S., and yes, some Christians around here really do talk like that. But they're usually Fundamentalists. Most other Christians don't use those sorts of phrases (for instance, you probably wouldn't hear a Unitarian or Episcopalian talking like that). Those phrases aren't used in my own church, but I've certainly heard them while visiting other churches, and I've also heard them from Fundamentalist co-workers.

I live in California, and the only people I hear talking that way are the Bible Lady (very sad, she's on the street, rambles a lot), and the Asian Jesus (not my names folks, it's how they're known around town) - he is mostly quiet but will quote scripture from time to time. Occasionally there is one or two at the city college, just quoting to beat the band- but generally speaking, no.

But bear in mind, I am in California. The are other sub-countries within the USA out there, like the bible-belt area, and I have no personal experience there at all...

Yup. It's called "Christianspeak" (though not by the ones who use the phrases). Really, it's not at all unlike any group that has its own jargon; medical and legal occupations, law enforcement, etc. And like anyone else, sometimes the Christians who say these things to each other forget to "turn it off" when speaking to someone outside the group.

Not *all* Christians.

You are referencing the more vocal Christians.

Most Christians are actually fairly quiet and reasonable. They don't blather on like that. I can actually go several days without hearing someone say any of those things.

But make no mistake--there are real nutjobs in the US. Some of them even hold office.

We do have a language of our own that is spoken all over the world by believers.
The reason you don't understand it yet, is because you hae not come to know him.

Here in Kansas, some people do talk like that. I get it at my job, where it seems inappropriate to me.
