My 6th grade teacher Mrs. Bishop (a really short, really loud and boisterous, black woman who's favorite saying was "Child, get out of my face and go research that question, don't ask me to give you the answer, learn for yourself.." ) She taught me the value of finding out for myself rather than relying on what someone told me.. She taught me that I could figure out anything as long as I was willing to put in the time and effort to do the research...
I don't emulate her but I still to this day use the research skills she fostered to find out things for myself..
I saw her a few years ago at the mall she not only remembered me by name, but remembered what year I was in her class and asked after other people in the class by name... An amazing woman still as quick minded and witted as ever.. As I parted company with her she still called me "Child" even as I approach 40.. Her exact words were "Child, you make an old teacher proud." LOL
