I want to take a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico from the United States. How can I save money on travel and lodging?

You could try the low cost airlines for flights:
www.jetblue.com
www.spiritair.com

also check out this site:
www.kayak.com
it checks for the nest deals from the airlines + other online sites and shows you the top few.

Call the hotels direct to see if they have any specials.
Check out Bed & Breakfast places (usually cheaper than hotels).

There is also this hotel in Old San Juan that was mentioned in the NY Times "Da House" hotel - rooms are less than $100

They have places and you do the maintenace.
Clean, make the bed. No tips and no hospitality
