my brake lights and my cruise control quit working on my silverado. I changed the pedal switch. traced it all back to a distribution block.... changed it out. still no brake lights. finaly jumped a wire from the brake light over to the turnsignal side of the bulb and have one brake light now and the cruise works. the bulbs are new also by the way. I have been told that it could be the multiswitch on the steering wheel. anybody have any ideas or input? Thanks

Eddie

Cruise Control Brake Switch

The first thing to do is to check all the trucks fuses, from the dash ones to the big box under the hood. Check all of them as just because they are not labelled as brake does not mean that the truck doesn't use the power for something you are not aware of. If that is all okay, check the power to the brake switch. It should be hot at all times. Then depress the pedal and check to see if the power is coming through the new switch. If it is, continue to chase through. The multi-funciton switch passes a lot of power through it for things like this. If you have the red brake lights that also serve as the signal lights, the power will pass through this switch. The same power checks are needed here. You will need a wiring diagram to be sure to probe the proper circuit. The cruise is the same type of checking. Test for all circuit operation from the connector at the cruise module under the hood. It needs battery power, ignition on power from the multi-function switch, and then uses switch inputs from the same switch for set, resume, accel to set the speeds of the truck. All these inputs are a basic 0V when off and 12V when on. There is a pulsed speed input, but if your speedo works then chances are that this is okay as well. You will need a wiring diagram to see which circuit to probe. Try not to damage any connectors while you are doing this as that is a mess to fix if you bugger any of those up. Good luck.

Yes the multi function switch fails and after you jump the wire every time you hit the brake the dash light turn on and so do the side markers. Sound like what you have?

cab lights work when engaging brakes. all lights new, fuses new, replaced brake switch, still no back brakes or cruise control. Where is this multiswitch mentioned above?

Sounds like you got a blown fuse. Find the fuse panel, and look in your owner's manual for the fuse location for cruise control, and brake light. That should do the trick. Good luck

do you have a plug for trailer wiring?if so check there, the plug could be backfeeding or grounding out, which also would cause cause the cruise not to work by fooling the computer into thinking the brakes have been applied.,just check you basics again cuz it never hurts to double check.

if your brake lights dont work, your cruise wont work either. so fix the brakes first and see if the cruise resolves itself

easy. purely take out the present blown bulb from the vehicle. keep in mind the way you took out, pay interest to the legs of the bulb. If the mild bulbs do no longer artwork, verify on the relationship. verify on the fuse if the relationship is powerful.
