Here is what The Stuttering Foundation says:
"What causes stuttering? There are four factors most likely to contribute to the development of stuttering: genetics ( approximately 60% of those who stutter have a family member who does also); child development (children with other speech and language problems or developmental delays are more likely to stutter); neurophysiology ( recent research has shown that people who stutter process speech and language in different areas of the brain than those who do not stutter); and family dynamics ( high expectations and fast-paced lifestyles can contribute to stuttering).

Stuttering may occur when a combination of factors comes together and may have different causes in different people. It is probable that what causes stuttering differs from what makes it continue or get worse."

Ignore the previous answers. The cause of stuttering is unknown. However, it is NOT caused by emotional issues though emotional problems may arise as a result, especially when fools tell you stuff like the previous answers you've gotten here. Most stutterers are above average in intelligence (Winston Churchill was a stutterer). It can be controlled. The best therapy I know of is the Hollins College Speech Reconstructure Program in Roanoke, Virginia. You will have to go there and stay for a couple of weeks and work hard to learn the technique. But it will set you free so well worth the time and $$$.

This is just a guess but I think it's you brain. When you say something you brain is thinking of something else, thus creating a reaction and forcing you to "change" what your going to say but instead you stutter and say the same word.

overanxiety to put it simply, though usually there is a lack of protein probem or some type of imbalance chemically. I have had the problem myself only to learn that malnutrition was the cause, and working out and eating right helps tremendously to give me focus.
