'God' takes on the characteristics of the culture that worships 'him'.

The evolving nature of 'god' is amongst the best proof 'he' is man-made and not an independant entity.

It's a hypocritical 'cop-out' of the 'Thou shalt not kill' commandment ( No. 6 in the most used versions ).

The point was, like in more recent 'firing squad' executions, where one shooter's rifle had a blank cartridge, no-one could prove who fired the killing shot, similarly with stoning it was the community that did the act, and no one person's stone could be proved to be the despatching blow.

Thus, on a technicality, if no-one could be proved to be responsible, individually, for killing the victim, then no-one had broken the 'Law'.

B*llsh*t really, but that's the sort of rigmarole that religion gets us doing.

And to the 'God' and "his appointed representatives" merchant, who says that 'God' appointed anyone to kill on 'his' behalf ???

Because Jesus came to earth and He died to take away all sin, rendering judgment under the Old Law unnecessary for those who place their faith in Him.
