My advice because it does sound like you "want" to drink. I can't drink beer and apparently it takes time to acquire the taste for it - plus more calories than hard alcohol.
I like the following for a first timer in no particular order:
#1. Amaretto Sour (suggested previously)
#2. Washington Apple (drink, not the shot)
#3. White Russian (kinda desserty, chocolate / coffee taste)
#4. Lemon Drop (another good suggestion mentioned previously)
#5. Midori Sour (melon flavored and bright green)
I would go with one or all of those. They aren't strong.
Other tips:
Make sure you eat before - Eating BREAD IS A MYTH!!!!! Go eat a steak or a cheeseburger beforehand. You can also alternate water and drink so you stay hydrated. and DO NOT let anybody you do / don't know (your call) buy or get you a drink without being witness to it! There is some crazy $#!T out there and people will take advantage of the situation.
Be careful and have fun!

An old saying, 'You are a fool if you drink before 40 years of age and you are a fool if you don't drink after 40'. Then champagne is the traditional drink for New Years.

WATER----and leave it that way---- Oh I know big 21, gotta go out and get your first legal taste of BOOZE... Ok but remember, with your new found ADULTHOOD comes a SEVERE RESPONSIBILITY----you must DRINK responsibily....if you are out with friends pick one who is NOT TO DRINK AT ALL and he or she becomes the designated driver... do NOT and I repeat do NOT think you are going to have a few drinks and then drive somewhere else or have another friend who is drinking drive you somewhere else.... you are risking your LIFE or one of your friends' lives that way....SERIOUSLY, get a designated driver and MAKE SURE that person stays totally away from the booze for the entire night... that's the only way you can INSURE that you will wake up Monday morning at ALL.

Happy birthday!! I turn 21 in a couple weeks but it's no biggie for me.. I did plenty of drinking my first two years of college :D I love vodka (I'm partial to Absolut) martinis with all kinds of different mixers: my two favorite are the sour apple martini (vodka and Apple Pucker) and a pineapple martini (vodka, coconut Rum and pineapple juice). My advice: don't over do it your first time drinking!!

smirnoff...watermellon, raspberry....it comes in so many fun and yummy flavors. the alcohol content is a little lighter, it doesn't taste too 'alcoholy' so it's a good one to start with. plus, it will still get you tipsy after a coupple but won't make you sick. similar to that...would be skyy blue vodka...the malt beverage in the little blue bottles. that is lemony and very sweet. i love it. if fruity is not your flavor, baily's irish cream is deeeelish....tastes like a minty, melted, chocolate shake. whatever you choose tho, be responsible! make sure you have a designated driver, a trustworthy friend or two to keep an eye out on you:) have fun, happy 21st!

A beer! Not slop like Coors or Bud, but something really good - Dogfish Head, Sam Adams Boston Lager, or something locally brewed. Maybe even a Guinness if you're adventurous.
I strongly recommend you have ONE drink per day, to start. Remember, you body is not used to drinking (if you've avoided alcohol until now, and I hope you have!), so go easy on your system at first.

There are several good drinks out there...it just depends on your taste albeit fruity, spirits or beer. My personal fav is a lemon drop, which is a slice of lemon with sugar and a shot of vodka. Yummish!
