Talking doesn't hurt. The guy may think this means you want to go farther. You haven't said how old either of you are. If you don't feel ready, or you don't think he's the right guy, make that really clear. You don't want him to feel like you're leading him on. Be sure that you talk on the phone or in a safe place.
