My last 2 questions were about abortion versus adoption of a specia needs child. I would like to explain why I asked these things.
I have a nephew who has autism and to me he is coolest most awesome kid I know. I know he has autism yet thats not who he is...he is just this awesome kid.
His mom/dad and him recently moved to a really small town and it is very religious. These people have something to say about everything considered ethical and all sit at the local cafe and talk about it.
With my nephew they have gawked and said things that they dont think people here. It breaks my heart. So thats why I wondered. I wondered why these people dont see him "as a gift from god" and then I wondered "how many people would choose to take on a child with disabilities..or maybe this once abortion would be ok to them"
I also wonder why are there so many kids that I work with in foster care or awaiting adoption. I work in Special Ed by the way. I hear arguements against abortion but no one

It's indeed horrible how society treats anybody that isn't concidered 'normal'.
I volunteer a few hours a week in an orphanage. It's truly sad to see, when it comes to adoption, that every time a kid without disabilities is chosen by the potential parents. It breaks my heart to see how the kids with problems feel more and more like 'left-overs', everytime another child is adopted.
Good for you for asking such question btw. And don't mind about people judging or assuming anything about the asker. If I would add up everything I was assumed on my questions, then I'm a Muslim Buddhist female lesbian gay male Christian Pagan child. And I'm probably forgetting a few things they've called me.

people are jerk sometimes... your nephew the same as with every child in this world, with disabilities or not are gifts of God.
it takes a lot of responsibility to take care of a child with a disability and it's not a job for everyone. you definitely have to feel that conviction. i can not lie to you, i would not be able to take on a child with a disability. it's a lot of work and my patience does not go very far... even with my own children whom are healthy.
it's a sad issue... i am against abortion but i do realize that its very hard for a child to grow up in a foster care or never to get adopted. i guess what you are trying to say is that everyone says no to abortions but no one steps up to help these kids... i don't know what to say.

May be this is not the right answer, but, Myself, my friends, my one daughter...we have all chosen o'er the years during pregnancy NOT to have our fetuses tested for downs syndrome. WHY? Because we all feel that these children are as welcome and as blessed as any children, we consider the addition to the family a joy!
No matter what the child, they all seem to tax us parents some how, so who cares! sooner or later the kids will break our hearts. Or... make us really proud! No abortion is not O.K.. it is an excuse!

You have to remember that people who stare and make comments don't know any better or they certainly aren't worthy to know these beautiful people.
The majority of children in foster care are taken away from a parent or parents for reasons.
Does the child suffer, yes, is it hard to watch, yes.
I think the focus should be geared toward finding homes and educating people before they have children.

I answered your revised question. I work in Special Ed too, and they are extremely lovable, unique individuals, these little ones with different abilities. But much of society has a tough time with people who are different in any kind of way; I pray that your nephew's community learns to accept him and appreciate him for the amazing individual he is!

Kiddo you are right on the money! They are just small minded pig headed people that hark back to the days of Hitler's super race beliefs.
It also brings to mind a little quote Christ made!
"Whatever you do to the least of these you do to me!"
