I've decided I'm converting to Islam, and my husband has decided to do it too. Where can we go to do this? I lost contact with a friend of mine who was knowledgable about Islam, I think she was deleted. Can a muslim tell me how to do this? Do I need witnesses or anything?

First of all Congrats!
Well, go to the nearest mosque if you have one where you are at and talk to the Imam. They will help you out with the whole thing( Its quite simple, you just recite the Shada which is testifying that There is only one God and Muhammed, peace be upon him is the messenger of God) and make you more comfortable and can be source of excellent knowledge too. May God/Allah Bless you and its a great decision!

Im a WHITE AMERICAN CONVERT < my husband is from india. i have seen alot of masjids and sometimes ara people act weird about talking about the deen that is why the dawaa movement is soooo big with white people like yusuf estes . sheikh hamza youssef and also african american . they are so active mashAllah in dawaa . indians are very open minded if you can find an indian or pakitani masjid im sure they can help you . in shaa Allah . I got told by an arab sister that i couldnt be muslim becuase i couldnt speak arabic and then when i went back a few years later and started speaking to her in arabic and i think her mouth hit the floor . dont worry about ppl like that you just do your thing and learn this wonderful deen in shaa Allah may you be guided to this wonderful deen of islam In shaa Allah . i would advise you not to ask ppl on here only becuase alot of haters . and they are haters out of ignorance . if you beleive that Isa was a messanger and not the son of god . And you beleive that there is No God but Allah Subhan wa'taala and that Prophet Mohamed SAWS is his messanger then you should seriously consider it . the quran changed from its true form of arabic unless you can read arabic you cant get the 100% beauty of it becuase its changed there are diffrent letters in arabic which you cannot translate into english . I have been muslimah now for 10 years Alhumdululah . its a way of life and you incorporate islam in everything we do . And i would never go back . My father is on the verge of converting as well . in shaa Allah . May you find the peace of this wonderful religion Also Yusuf Estes is really good about explaining things .

Peace

Congratulations on finding the right path. Welcome to the sisterhood. Converting to Islam is actually very simple. You need to say the testimony of faith which is "Ash hadu an laa ilaaha illallaah wa ash hadu anna Muhammad rasuul Allah", "I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger."

You also should take a bath to cleanse yourself of your past so that you start over because when someone converts to Islam they are reborn and all their past sins are completely erased.

You do need witnesses and you should try to contact your local mosque and they will probably help you arrange your conversion to Islam at your local mosque. To find the mosque closest to you, go to www.islamicfinder.com , just type in your city or zip code and it will give you a list of nearby mosques and Islamic centers.

If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Congratulations once again and May Allah keep you on the right path.

Peace

Alhamdulillah..

Congrats to both of you!!
The first thing to do is to proclaim or testify one simple thing:
"I TESTIFY THAT THAT THERE IS NO GOD BUT ALLAH, AND MUHAMMAD IS THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH" in Arabic..

You both will need to do this in front of two witnesses and I strongly reccommend that you go to a nearby mosque or an Islamic Center for this and for further information..
This proclamation is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, in fact the first one. You have completed the first one..

The Five Pillars of Islam are which are required by every Muslim are:
1) The "shahadah"; the proclamation of "I testify that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" in Arabic.

2) The "solat" which is praying five times a day (you can ask someone really knowledgable for this, I am afraid of giving the wrong information).

3) The "sawm" or fasting in the month of Ramadhan, the holy month of Islam. One of the reasons we fast is to remember how the poor suffer from hunger and starvation. This helps us seek humility and remind us how weak we are compared to Allah.

4) The "zakat" or "zakah"; the act of giving alms to the poor.

5) The "hajj" which is the journey to the Holy City of Mecca, completing the rituals required ( please ask someone for further information). You go there wearing only two peace of seamless cloth (preferably white). The seamless cloth is only applied to men; women can wear any appropiate clothe and covering the "aurat" (preferably white). This is to show that all human beings are equal. This journey is a once a lifetime to all Muslims that are financially and mentally prepared.

I am sorry for the parts that I cannot describe in detail. I am afraid of giving slightly wrong informations to you. Anyway, congrats again!!

Congratulation
It's very simple you just have to say or believe in the Shahada
" I believe that no God but Allah and Muhamed is the his prophet" Now you are a Muslim.
- Next step is the 5 corners of Islam. Understand it and try to do it as it's the basics of Islam.
- Take it easy on you and go slowly and step by step. Islam is a very deep religion that cares about all details, so It's like a calm ocean. Huge but simple. Deep but not dangerous.

You don't need witnesses for the decision in your heart, but you do if you plan to go to Hajj or umrah in the future, so it's better to call up a local mosque and ask them about conversion. You can do it with just a few Muslim witnesses or in front of the "congregation" (what's the correct word, anyone?)

Having come from a family that escaped Islam in the 1950s, I caution you.
I believe in freedom of religion, but would urge you to deliberately talk to as many sources saying "Don't" as you can.

If it is a good decision, you will retain your goal. If it is not, the things you hear may turn you from this idea. I hope so.

I am not religious. My family still hopes for the redemption of Islam and it's survival. We've been expecting this war for decades. We just didn't expect the West to be as successful as it has been. We're grateful for it.

I wish you have a deep study of Islam. I am Muslim and I know there are many confusing things but finally I can say it is wonderful faith if you really understand its teaching.

Go ahead; just PLEASE don't be a radical one.

Apparently they're on to denying the holocaust now; the atrocities of the Second World war are no longer being taught in British schools because it "might offend Muslim pupils".

Oh, and please don't be an infidel-killer...

As the Koran says,

Sura 9:5 - "Once the Sacred Months are past, you may kill the non-believers when you encounter them, punish them, and resist every move they make."

Now, that is open to interpretation, but please do not take it literally.

I sound sarcastic, but I'm not.

Come to think of it, even that sounds sarcastic... OMG!

Good luck with that, and remember:

Death Before Denial.

Phil

(I'll probably get a beating from Sarah J now; long live Christendom! lol)
