How exactly did Lot's daughters take advantage of him?

I actually made my husband read this story the other day, because he didn't believe that something like that was in the Bible (what he spent all his time doing in Sunday school, not sure, but it wasn't learning.)

Needless to say, he was appalled after reading it.

Genesis 19:34 "The next day the older daughter said to the younger, 'Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father'."

At this point, Lot and his family had left behind the evil and immoral cities of Sodom and Gomorrah as the towns were being engulfed by Heavenly fire, called down by angels. They settled temporarily in the town of Zoar, but fled there too, because of the immorality of the place. Lot didn't think it was a safe place for his family.

At the point in the story where this occurs, the family is living up in the mountains. They know they are the chosen of God and that it is vital that their family line continue. There are no men around, and if they were to go to a nearby city, they would only find immoral men. An immoral man cannot continue a moral family line, therefore, the only choice left to the daughters was to have children from their father.

Since Lot, their father, is a moral man and would not willingly have sex with his own daughters, they had to get him drunk in order to get pregnant.

Each of the daughters did become pregnant, as we seen in Genesis 19:36-38. "So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites of today. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.

This chapter of Genesis is one of the most difficult for many Christians to understand. The rules of hospitality and lineage took precedence over our current views and it takes an understanding of the context of the story to make it make sense.

they got him drunk and when he was passed out and unaware they had sex with him so they could become pregnant by their father so his seed would not die.they thought they were the only people left on earth and to have a child their father was their only option.the oldest daughter the first night and the next night the younger daughter.they caused their father to unknowingly commit incest that's how they took advantage of him.

As the cowardly Lot took refuge in a cave and was afraid to go out.The girls thought they were the only ones left alive.So to start the population again and to as they said "preserve our father's seed " they got him stoned and did it.They knew he wouldn't do it willingly.These two boys became the Moabites and Ammonites that plagued Israel for years.

I have always thought the story was probably told to keep Lot a hero and it happened the other way around but... you know... "The Bible Saith!" So......
