$1700 seems to be alittle much for something so small and sickly. Not to include their doctors visits and cute accessories from target.

Teacup yorkies do not exist. Yorkies are yorkies plain and simple and they are ALL a toy breed. Breeders have purposely bred yorkies to be as small as possible and "tea cup" is just a term they made up to get more money from people. Generally if a dog is smaller than normal, there are probably health issues. Would you buy a dog that was 25 pounds that really should be 50 pounds? No, because you would assume that there was something wrong, and in this case, there may be.
Most breeders that offer teacup or toy yorkies are only trying to get money and aren't concerned about the health of the breed.

Wow $1700 is too much. I have 2 Yorkies. One is 100% AKC Yorkie and cost $550. The other is 3/4 Yorkie and 1/4 Maltese. She cost $500. She is 5 lbs and adorable. She looks exactly like a Yorkie but has the long Maltese ears. Go to www.puppyfind.com or www.bwaggaintails.com. Keep looking and you will find one. Do not pay that kind of money.

All yorkies are a toy breed, no teacups. Small dog breeds are immensely popular and therefore very expensive. There is a lot of upkeep on the yorkie with the grooming needed. They are cute but I prefer the chihuahua, easier to care for and cute as can be.

It's all about demand, I'm sure. So many people can't walk a dog, or live in apartments and these smaller breeds are just easier for that kind of life style. Breeders of tiny dogs usually have little trouble selling their pups, so the prices go up. These dogs can be litter trained or wee wee pad trained for life, never need to be taken for real outdoor romps, they get plenty of exercise chasing toys in an apartment, they are easy to carry, can even be "carried on" in airplanes... they eat less, the list goes on. Many people just prefer smaller dogs for lifestyle reasons, and the laws of economics, supply/demand will set the price. The price you stated also indicates some pedigree lines, perhaps a champ or two in the bloodline? You should check that out. Good luck!

If someone is asking $1,700.00 for a "teacup" anything run the other way and don't look back! That would be a backyard breeder or pet shop. Check out http://www.akc.org to find a real breeder. You still are going to be paying around $1,000.00 but you'll also get get a health guarantee and a quality dog. All the best;^)

They are 'trendy' right now, thanks to idiot celebrities sporting them like fashion accessories,so people charge more for them. When they're not as popular in another 5 years, the prices will have fallen.
