I had a bad cut recently that now has a scab. The doctor said no matter what, absolutely DO NOT TOUCH or pick the scab, even if it's dangling or hanging by a thread. (Gross, I know.) So what would you recommmend to put or rub on it? I hear moisturizer works good to dry it out and make it fall off. Any ideas?

Hi:

You should leave the scab alone at all costs.

Your body creates a scab to protect and heal the new sking underneath and help it to get ready to complete exposure to air and light soon.

As your would is healing the scab will be starting to pull away from the wound. It will continue this healing process until the scab falls off and that tells you that your wound is fine, it is healed .

When you pick a scab you are actually ripping the new tissue growth under the scab. The skin it is supposed to be protecting. When this is done, most of the time this is where your scar will form.

Give your body time to heal.

I'm pretty sure your doctor meant.

"Leave it alone to come off on it's own. Without any help from you."

If you do not like the look of it, put a band-aid on it. Messing with a scab can cause the cut to scar. The scab it temporary, a scar is permanent. Listen to your doctor.

I would just recommend leaving it alone. By removing/picking at a scab, you can leave a more noticeable scar than if you just let it fall off naturally.

leave it alone till the scab comes off! when it does, u can put Vitamin E oil on it to keep it from scarring. as for the scab itself, put it in a pipe & smoke it.

moisturizer wont dry it out. the only hing you can really do is wait, you can try rubbing some rubbing alcohol on it but i doubt it will dry it out. another thing is to soak it in water for a few minutes and let it dry out.
