Wow, You must have thought about this question a long time. Well your part right. The bible does say if you accept Jesus as you lord and savior he will come in to your heart. But It also says you have to turn from your wicked ways. The lady at the well was a sinner and he said go your way and sin NO more. We all have sin but we must work daily to sin No more. I know some times it hard to understand how really bad people can still get forgiveness and go to heaven. I"m glad I'm not God I would really have thing messed up. God's plan is perfect the only thing is man is not. And he give us free will. I am glad he is merciful and can forgive. I really don't think anyone would ever make it to heaven if he wasn't so forgiving. By the way this is a good question. Thanks for asking it>

It's a simple matter of faith and following the instructions. If a rapist/murderer repents and accepts Christ as Savior then yes, he gets in. The key word is "repent" ie, never does it again. Chrisitianity is a faith-based religion, not a works based religion because believe it or not, that little white lie you told the other day is just a bad as the man who rapes and murders, no sin is greater than any other sin, God is no respecter of persons. Good works only apply to those who are saved, it does not determine whether or not they get in to heaven because that issue was already decided when they accepted Christ, but determines their heavenly reward. If you build a house, you get to choose the materials, the work crew, what kind of paint to put on the walls or what kind of floor to lay. If a subcontractor screws up, you fire him and hire another who can do the job proper. No one else can say squat about how you build your house. Please prepare your closing arguments now before you stand before the Judge of the Universe and have to explain to God why you think there was a flaw in His system. You didn't create the universe, He did, He can run it however His wants! Chew on that one awhile.

The atheist also has done bad things, because no matter how good you are, you screw up sometimes. God is totally, 100% Perfect, and because of that, cannot allow anything that is even 0.000000000001% imperfect into his sight, or into Heaven. When the murder/rapist repented (or in other words ask God to forgive him) and asked Jesus to CHANGE him, as long as he truly meant it, he will be changed. He would feel true remorse for what he did, from killing to raping to taking that $.50 candy bar from the store as a kid. When he dies, God does not see all the bad things the that person has done, he sees Jesus, who is standing in front of that person, and Jesus is saying to God the Father, "hey, this guy is with me." It is like a well known movie star (Jesus), a total star trek geek (The bad guy), and your average, somewhat good looking, but not great, everyday Joe (the atheist) going to the most popular club in California. By himself, neither the everyday Joe or the geek could get in. But if the movie star says to the bouncer "hey, this guy is with me," the bouncer will definitely let the geek in, no matter how he acts or looks, because of who he is with. But the everyday Joe, who does not know the movie star personally will be told by the movie star "I never knew you, go away." The everyday Joe will not be able to get in then, because he is not good enough.

a man who rapes and murders a child can go to heaven.
This statement is pure garbage. Know this. The sinner is a suicide. does that sound like heaven? I don't think so. Why are so many people hung up on the idea that you can be horrible and be allowed to walk freely with God beats the heck out of me, or that is to say I just can't get a handle on that notion that there are ways where sin can escape the law of sin, which is death.
If the human race would understand that not one impurity will walk with God, it would sure straighten out the acts of a lot of folks.

To sit down and explain it would really be helpful here.
However I will make the attempt:
Your question is this (I think): Is God a good and just God or is he evil? And, I'm with you: If he is not perfect and good and righteous then forget him. If he is flawed, then don't follow him.
It’s a problem also that you’re listening to the words of Christians (not really listening though) and not picking up the Book yourself.
This approach will only make your confusion increase and God will continue to look like a bad idea to you.
Over the years, drawing closer to him I have found greater and greater perfection in him. Therefore my devotion increases with time.

And I believe that God is both Loving and Forgiving and that the man who rapes and murders a child may have to do some time in Purgatory/Hell, but that a 'good atheist' will go straight to heaven ... but that we will ALL be in Heaven in the end! God is PERFECT ... it's us HUMANS that are 'flawed' but God will 'help us grow better' even after we 'die' so we can all go to Heaven in the end, because that is WHY he 'created us' in the FIRST PLACE!

Well you see if God had written the Bible then everything would be perfect. However, it was man that wrote the Bible. We already know that man if far from perfect. If there is a God he doesn't exist the way man has created him. He's probably off in some distant Galaxy creating more dumb people.

I will be a good hearted person my entire life. I will never kill unless in defence of my life or that of my family. I don't steal, lie, cheat or forget to wash my hands after I go pee. But, I'll also never be baptized, or put my faith in church or organized religion.
I think if there is a God, he has a special place in hell carved out for those who do wrong in Gods name.

You try to approach matters of faith with reason. They are not compatible. You either accept the system or not. The worse thing that many people do is to try to adjust the system so as to fit them. Personally I have rejected it and I don't try to make sense out of it anymore since there isn't any.

What could be better. He gives us the freedom, the choice to choose Him instead of being forced to love Him (which is impossible), He wipes our slates clean no matter how "good" or bad you have been and continues to forgive you in all your weakness. Can you name a better way to ensure that as many people, that He loves, get into heaven by their own choice?
