Do you REALLY want to spend ETERNITY with a bunch of people who get tiresome after a day at Bible retreat?

2007-06-07 13:19:19 · 27 answers · asked by Anonymous in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

James X: When you speak of muderers, I assume you are talking about people like John Calvin, who murdered Michael Servetus for publishing a book that challenged his doctrines, right?

You're totally right. I DON'T want to spend eternity with people like that.

I'm agnostic, but if a Hell exists in my opinion only the really horrible people will go there.

Following a different religion (or none at all) would not be enough to go to Hell.

Being a person with flaws or problems would not be enough to go to Hell.

But if Heaven is just a place for religious fundamentalists ala Falwell, then no I wouldn't want to go there either.

Contrary to what you believe, Hell is not a place of social gatherings, and a good time, the way Satan has led you to believe. He is the father of lies, and has led you to believe this. He only says that to get you there. He is trying to grab all the souls he can before Jesus comes back. He knows his days are numbered, and what his fate is. The Bible has a description of Hell. It says there will be " WEEPING AND WAILING AND GNASHING OF TEETH" Now, if that sounds like a good time to you, then, I guess it is. Me? I choose Heaven, and all the promises that come with it. And contrary to what you might believe about heaven, we won't just be sitting on some cloud (like in the cartoons), playing a harp, and being bored. We will be walking on streets of pure gold, and seeing things never seen by earthly eyes, living in mansions, and singing beautiful songs with beautiful, perfect voices we could never have here. There are gems you have never seen, and things you have never heard, and the best thing of all is we get to be face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ, who is sitting on His throne, and who we will be throwing crowns at His feet, and loving every minute of it. Because that's why we were created in the 1st place. To worship Him in all His Glory. That doesn't sound too boring to me. Oh, by the way, I'm not real fond of living on the earth with all the atheists, and people who are constantly mocking my Lord. Just a thought for ya-- Earth is a middle place. It is the closest a Believer will get to Hell, but it is also the closest a Non-Believer will get to Heaven. If you choose Hell, then that is your choice. God gave you free will to choose what you want. He, however does want you to choose Him,and have everlasting life, as opposed to EVERLASTING TORMENT IN HELL. There is a book called "90 Minutes in Heaven" it is written by a Pastor who was pronounce dead for 90 minutes. He gives a descriptive picture of what heaven looks like (right outside the gates, that is), and everything he experienced. It is fascinating, and gives me even more hope of going there when I die. Read the book, and see what you think. Then, maybe pick up a Bible. There are some really "interesting" stories in it. Have you ever read it? If not, how do you know? I pray that you turn to Jesus and repent, so I may see you in Heaven! May be we can share some interesting stories? God Bless! Oh, by the way, there are some books written by people who have died for a short time, and returned to tell their visions of Hell. You might want to read some of them, too. They just might change your mind. And maybe not.

Listen up, man. A guy named Irwin Lutser wrote a book called "One Minute After You Die." Read it and then ask yourself that question. Another good author to read is Erwin McManus - if you have the mental capacity for it. Look, Hell is described as a place of "weeping and gnashing of teeth." It's not going to be a party as some think. You're on the right track by asking the question ... cool. Personally, I don't care for religious, Bible retreat people. But Jesus? Yeah, he came to show us how to live now and how to secure our future. He came to tear down religion and all that it stood for. Not too many people got it. Not too many people get it today either. Keep searching.

*laughs* i imagine heaven would get very boring. question to the man who used bible quotes in his answer.... why? the bible may be inspired by "god" or some higher being, but it was written by man. they're just nice quotes that sound pretty i think. they don't prove anything, because they are just opinions not facts. you could say "i don't like the color red" and that doesn't prove anything. you can say "all athiests go to hell" and that is just what you think, not what everyone else thinks. personally i think that if you honestly think you're going to hell then you will. but it's only in your mind (heaven and hell) so if you don't believe in it then you can't go there now can you? ahahahaha. i'm rambling. and it's been an unusual day. and i have to be up in 5 hours..... g'night all.

Personally I always thought atheists were at least as boring as a born-again. I shouldn't like to encounter either in a positive posthumous environment. As to what is interesting,it would be interesting to meet all those famous killers,but I wouldn't want to be in prison as a prisoner to do it. In any event,other than fundamentalists,few Christians regard hell as a physical place; it's a state of being,a spiritual condition. If you think it would be interesting,do something so depraved the keepers of the gate can turn you down.

I don't think so but, ya know what everytime I am at a party or something all the really funny bright people it seems are outside smoking and drinking. I am thinking that maybe Heaven will be these people but only Holy ones. I don't know if that makes sense but.... Really I love people with a great sense of humor and I have found that so many have misplaced theirs.

Can you contemplate endless misery? Think of the most miserable time in your life. Think of the time that you felt the most pain ever. This doesn't have to just be physical pain, but mental and emotional pain. Ponder on that experience. The experience of endless torment or hell is much worse than that.

Just ponder the significance of this scripture...

"Therefore I command you to repent—repent, lest I smite you by the rod of my mouth, and by my wrath, and by my anger, and your sufferings be sore—how sore you know not, how exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not.
16 For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent;
17 But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I;
18 Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink—
19 Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men. " (Doctrine and Covenants 19:15-19).

chyaa!

are you kidding? an eternity of learning NEW things... chatting with Jesus, Paul, Mary, Noah, Jonah, Job, not to mention every single other believer....
this type of question simply shows a misunderstanding of who God is. He's infinate! I'm sure He has infinate ideas for us.
can't wait.

blessings :)
EDIT: From our 'earthly' perspective, I'm in agreement with Midge... however, from a spiritual understanding of Who God is, and since He's the author of our very being, I would say that we all have in us a wealth of wit and humour, that we will all thoroughly enjoy when we get to heaven. I have a very healthy sense of humour - which I am confident many have enjoyed on this board (*smile). I'm sure that it won't disappear when I get to heaven - in fact, I'm positive that there will be depths of our beings that we haven't even been able to tap into here on earth....

blessings all - I truly do enjoy everyone's humour here :)

I don't believe that all the interesting people are going to hell. My mom and dad were pretty wise decent and interesting people and I am also pretty interesting myself and I plan on meeting up with all my loved ones in Heaven and catch up.
