We still have 12 million++ illegal immigrants among us.
1. Do you believe that the government will finally implement the laws already on the books? Seriously?

2. The bill has provision for funds for border security and implementation of measures to track visitors to ensure they don't overstay as well as requiring all employers to ensure their employees are legally allowed to work. Does this mean that we'll just continue with what we have now where we don't know and couldn't verify an employee's status?

3. How do we solve this problem in such a way that brings back order and rule of law and at the same time being humane? I keep hearing proposals to make life as unbearable as possible to the illegals so that they will finally leave voluntarily. But the thing is, isn't that the very reason why our soldiers risk their lives to fight wars overseas, end oppressive regimes and make lives bearable in those countries? And yet some are okay with oppressing them here in our country?

If the immigration bill fails then America will be in bad shape. The bill is fair to all participants. It is not amnesty, there are significant penalties to those who broke the law. It allows immigrants who want a better life in America to work toward their goals.

1. Kennedy, McCain, Graham, and the rest of the "Pro Amnesty" bozos already voted to not enforce our existing laws. Considering this, is it any wonder that Americans are standing up and telling them to "Stick it" concerning a bill that gives away the ranch for the sake of "doing something"?

2. We should guard the border first. Build the fence that has been ignored (the money is already secured, the refuse to build it) prosecute employers who hire illegals. The laws that already exist can do this, if actually implimented.

3. We need to hold your Representatives to task and make them enforce the law. They can produce a biometric id card for legal employment, prosecute those who refuse to accept the cards (some amnesty cities will try this), give anyone who wishes to return to their homeland a free airline ticket to do so.
After our border is secured we can pass a bill for temporary workers. This will allow people who pass a background check for crime, disease, ect. to work in our country for a period of time, however they will not be privy to your national benefits such as schools, medical care, and social security. After the time limit is up, they can return to their home country, and reapply for another work permit. If they committed no crime here, they will likely be allowed another permit. If they broke a law, they would be denied.

As for us "oppressing them" we are giving them jobs, benefits, ect. while they are breaking our laws. They have no rights here because they do not belong here. If they wish to apply for a work visa, then they can get in line.

Enforcing our laws is not "oppressing" them.

Hiring an illegal alien is AGAINST THE LAW. If nobody hired illegal aliens, there would be no jobs, therefore no reason to stay in the U.S. illegally.

How is this "oppressing" them??

BTW most of the countries these illegal aliens come from have NO TOLERANCE whatsoever for illegal aliens. So how, pray tell, are we an "oppressive regime" if WE enforce our laws?

If we don't enforce this law, we will NEVER be rid of illegal aliens and they will NEVER stop coming here.

It has already failed WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A White House-backed bill revamping U.S. immigration laws stalled in the U.S. Senate on Thursday, handing President George W. Bush a major legislative setback.

The sharply divided Senate refused to limit debate on the fragile compromise hammered out by a bipartisan group of senators and the White House. As a result, the legislation will be set aside and the Senate is expected to move on to other matters.
And now maybe our government will start inforcing our laws.

I doubt the bill will pass at all, and if it doesn't I don't think much will change as long as our current president is in office. Hopefully we'll get a true conservative president in '08 like Fred Thompson or Tom Tancredo and something will be done then.

We also need to put some more traditional conservatives back in the House and Senate, because if the bill fails I can almost guarantee you Ted Kennedy will be up to his old drunken tricks next year, proposing another destructive amnesty bill.

1. I sure hope it fails.

We will need to single out those elected officials who voted for this piece of hooey and replace them. I will never vote for one of these traitors.

2. The border security in this bill is a joke. No funds are earmarked for security so none ever will be available. But the illegals will be granted instant visas that allow them to stay, work and take advantage of many of our tax supported benefits.

3. Humane to whom? Humane to the illegals who broke our laws? Humane to the scummy employers who knowingly hired these illegals? Or humane to the low-income legal Americans and the taxpayers who will have to pay trillions of dollars to fund this amnesty?

I feel that our elected officials need to get their priorities straight. They are elected by US, paid by US and can be replaced by US. If they want to represent Illegals then they should move to another country and help those people out that way.

1. Absolutely not if you keep electing the people you do

2. Yep.

3. First you build a wall. Then you streamline the immigration process so that people who want better lives can find them legally.

1. No. They're scared that the illegals won't vote for them.

2. Yes.

3. The illegals are just that...ILLEGAL. They came here on their own and the only way to get them to leave is on their own.

We will have another chance to fix immigration before it is to late.We need to STAND UP, AND PUT A STOP to all the things that are going on to destroy our country, and life as we know it, or it's going to be TOO LATE!! Think of your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. What kind of future are they going to have? Call your congressmen/congresswomen and demand them to protect our country. Be careful who you vote for! Make sure you know where they stand on these important issures, or God help us all!!

I thinks the politicians will regroup and try to dick over the American people again and again until the nest election when a significant number of nobodies from the Styx get elected and maybe the ones left will remember who hired them to do their job. Then again maybe not!
