All wheel drive means 4 CV joint axles and center differential and drive shaft from front to back. That makes 8 joints 4 axles two to four u joints in the drive shaft and up to three differentials for AWD. On FWD one differential and two axles. Sure AWD is the way to go however weight and complexity has to be a problem latter in the life of the car. You just don't see many old WRX's or EVO's The new 5 gen GTI is a great car. Get the dual clutch transmission you will be amazed!

I think the GTi overall is a more solid ride being made in Germany, and a R32 version(which I believe has the 4-wheel drive system developed from the Quattro is also rally proven).

All 3 are great cars, but I just love the "feel" of driving a German car, personally. They are really well sorted out after 100MPH...

front wheel drive cars are usually cheaper to maintain than all wheel drive cars. fwd cars have fewer parts to maintain.
