i have to travel far and stay at a hotel over night which is going to cost me lot. is it cheap of me not to give cash?

I'm assuming that you are friends with your employer or would not be going thru the expense and travel for the wedding? If just an employer/employee relationship, pick something off of their registry and go with it.

Frankly, I think it's not a good idea to ever give an employer cash. Better, especially in a town far from you would be a gift certificate for two to a fine restaurant. You don't have to go crazy on the expense, no one knows better then your employer how much you earn!

They are probably registered somewhere and most couples are very good about getting a variety of items in a wide array of price points, so that way you get them what they asked for and you keep to your budget.You could pool money with other employees to get a really nice gift as well. Good Luck!
