I asked for REAR 3 POINT seat belts folks. Not front 3 point seat belts!!!!

First time i noticed was the 1990 dodge stratus. on out side belts now you have this thing hanging down from the headliner. That is why I drive a coupe 2006 pontiac GTO

Front shoulder belts started making their appearance in the early 1970s. December 1989, they were mandated in the backseat on the outboard (behind passenger and driver seats) except for convertibles, vans, light trucks, etc...they became mandated in September 1991. Car manufacturers have seen that having a 3pt seatbelt is MUCH safer than a lap belt only so MOST cars have eliminated lap belt only. HTH!

They started appearing in the mid '80s. I've seen cars from '81 without them and '88 with them, but I'm not sure which year they became required.

At the extreme risk of dating myself..My 1971 SS Chevelle 454 had them...and I really used them!!..Needed it to hang on!!..........Miss that car!!!...Sniff Sniff
