I have a pay per essay web site for college students. When we recieve an order we then forward it to an indivudial freelance writer who we pay per page. I now need to know what tax forms i need to fill out if any for my writers ( who are more individual contractors.)

You'll have to provide each a 1099 which shows what you paid them. You'll need their tax id (ssn) to do so.

Any writer that you pay $600 or more in any tax year needs to receive a Form 1099 from you. You'll prepare those in January of next year and send copies to the writers. You'll also send copies to the IRS, accompanied by the Form 1096 transmittal form.

You need to have the copies in the mail to your writers by January 31st. The IRS copies must be filed by March 1st. If you miss the filing deadlines you may be subject to penalties of $50 per late Form 1099. If you are late due to a flagrant disregard of the rules you can be penalized an additional $100 per late Form 1099.
