In my area, young drivers are driving at 70mph in a 40mph or 30mph zone and crashing. Then all of a sudden, speed bumps go up, road signs appear everywhere and the speed is restricted to 20mph. Why do the majority suffer low speed limits to kids who will continue to do 70mph. Rather than be 30 to 40mph over the speed limit, they're now 50mph over and we have reduced down?

Should new drivers be restricted to size of engine (for example)

This is because some bright spark decides to penalise everyone for the sake of the few idiots.

I think one reason for speed bumps (I may be wrong) was to slow down so called 'joy riders' but they obviously don't mind wrecking someone else’s car by going fast over speed bumps.

Also, I can tell you from experience, as a Police emergency response driver that trying to get to an emergency call quickly over speed bumps is not easy. In my area we've caused damage to our cars several times doing just this. It's ludicrous!

More education for the minority is what's needed. I'm not naive enough to think that we all stick to the speed limit all the time but there are limits to the average sensible person when they're driving.

The problem isn't so much the driving age as the driver's education. Back in Germany and Austria, getting your driver's license was an undertaking of serious study, and not exactly cheap either. Having to invest a lot of time and some money to make it happen gives people more respect for the thing, I think. Not to mention that they learn a lot more about the physics of driving, the internals of their car, and the consequences of messing with Newton's Apple.

I find traffic irritating Calming measures) humps a nuisance and even if I obey the speed limit sometimes quite painful.
In spite of what the authorities try to say they are in themselves dangerous and must damage a cars suspension over a quite short period of time. I await with interest the first
time a successful claim is made for damage when an exhaust is ripped off or someone ends up paralysed due to a pre-existing back condition previously unknown to the victim. Remember in English law you take your victim as you find him

The problem you've identified is young drivers in too powerful cars, driving too fast. I have three suggestions which might help:

1. All drivers must observe a 45mph speed restriction for 24 months after passing their test; which can be extended if broken; and their have a green 'P' (for provisional) sign displayed on the rear of their car.

2. No driver under 19 is permitted to drive a vehicle which exceeds 1.4cc unless a commercial delivery vehicle or bus.

3. All drivers must display a current insurance disc in the window of their car, next to the tax disc.

It won't solve your problem specifically, but it might hinder the problem overall.

Of course, you could just cut their bal!s off instead. :)

Put more real police officers on the streets, rather than humps bumps and cameras.

As for speeding kids, raise the age limit, restrict engine size and stiffer penalties. However, I can honestly say that it is not just kids who speed, the national average is men in their 40's... makes you think twice eh?

Perhaps it is best to slow downs citizens so they have an increased reaction time to avoid the kids driving 70mph. And I would like to see the vehicles they do 70mph over speed bumps in. Baja trucks?

So that the powers that be can eventually introduce local road pricing, on the pretext that by driving slower and in lower gears you are responsible for increased pollution of the atmosphere and speeding up global warming.

I think that the driving age should be upped to 21 - or completion of higher education, whichever comes first.

I think they should be able to have a license at a younger age but there should be a restriction that they must have a parent or guardian over 21 with them when they are driving.

they should make the test harder, or lift the driving age to 21 years old, maybe then they will drive safe, all the best

I don't know. They also stick humps everywhere to wreck our cars, where's the sense in that?
