Veils are made of tulle. It's a form of a very finely woven netting. The material (nylon, silk or rayon) is often starched to keep its shape. The trim is usually made of a delicate lace or hand embroidered flowers.

most commercial veils are nylon or polyester tulle (pronounced "tool"). It's a fine netting that comes in widths from 54-108". It can be cut and left as-is, it won't unravel.
Silk tulle is nice, but rarely used because it is pricey and very very fragile.
Some of our customers also try chiffon or organza (but on these fabrics the edges will need to be finished to keep them from unraveling). Chiffon is drapey and sheer, but not as see-through as tulle. Organza is similar but stiffer for a fuller look.

I've seen them in tulle, silk, polyester, nylon, chiffon. Just depends. If you are looking to make one then the ladies at the fabric store are sure to help you or just walk around and look at the bolts of fabric until you see one that looks like what you wants. Many of them will be found in the special occasion fabrics where they keep the silk and stuff for prom dresses.

It's called tulle and it's normally made out of nylon.... I haven't seen a silk one unless your looking at Vera Wang veils.
Walmart and fabric stores carry it for like .99 cents to $2.00 a yard.

I have seen them made of silk,or lace, taffata, and even cotton, but here in Alabama we generally use good old mosquito netting. You simply bleach it white.
