I am an Atheist and I believe it is truly better than having a religion. When I got rid of my religion, it was like a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders.

I am an atheist but I dont feel its better than having a faith. I find it hard for people not to look at it from a historical point of view. The tribes of Africa and other civilizations like the Aztecs used to believe in rain gods and sacrifice people to appease the gods. We look at that now and think "Wow how could they think that". We know that the weather is a natural phenomenon and the the volcano erupting is not because of an angry god.
One day people will look at our civilization and say "Wow, they would go to these special buildings called "chuches" and pray to their god". Its so unevolved to kill someone because they have a different god. So my answer is when the human race has evolved more the thoughts of an almighty will just seem to be silly.

But as they say....each to their own.

This has been on my mind for a while now. I tend to avoid religion all together. What does this make me? I spend the night with my friend occasionally on Saturdays, and I have to go to church with her the next morning. I like the morals that the church teaches, but some of the stuff sounds so pathetic. My parents are ashamed of me for this, but I never went to church when I was little, and I've only been about 4 times now with my friend. I am just plain confused. :) lol

I have strong atheistic leanings and I am pleading with with people of various faiths to prove me that their faith and claims are indeed legitimate. More often than not I get a bunch of responses from people who confuse "having an open mind" with being completely gullible

They're just egotistical people who can't admit that they don't have the answers to everything. And they are so persistant in their beliefs you might as well call being an Atheist a freaking religion in itself. Why the heck else do they post on the religious section? Either to troll--or to spread their faith or lack their of ...whatever. I don't think having a religion is the best thing. I think having morals is better than anything.
