Why does everyone believe what they hear? The Quran never even once says to kill apostates. Not a single verse, but when it comes to apostates, it does say to leave them alone as it is between them and God. Does nobody bother to check facts anymore? The bible does say to kill apostates, even your own child, but not the Quran. If you are going to quote the one hadith, remember, muslims are to follow Quran first and if something goes against it, it is not to be followed. Yes, there are the extremists (key word "EXTREMISTS") who don't follow it and kill people, and they will be sent to hell on the Day. But the Quran in many places says to leave them alone. Here are the verses. What do you think and has this changed the "muslims must kill all apostates" thinking for you?

"Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy handhold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things. (The Noble Quran, 2:256)"
"Say: 'Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger: but if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance. The Messenger's duty is only to preach the clear (Message). (The Noble Quran, 24:54)"
Noble Verse 3:90 "But those who reject faith after they accepted it, and then go on adding to their defiance of faith never will their repentance be accepted; for they are those who have (of set purpose) gone astray."
Noble Verse 4:137 "Those who believe, then reject faith, then believe (again) and (again) reject faith, and go on increasing in unbelief,- Allah will not forgive them nor guide them nor guide them on the way."

to PC load letter, Islam does NOT allow the killing of atheist, Hindus, Buddhist or any other religion. Force-full conversions for any religion are definitely NOT allowed either.
and to Ed Snow, none of Mohammad's (pbuh) friends left Islam! no-one was killed.
in fact did you know the prophet's uncle, who raised Muhammad as his own son, and was deeply cherished by the prophet never became Muslim? and he WAS not killed my Muslims. because that was his own personal choice.

I really wonder how many Bangladeshis actually ever read and understand the Koran. No offense, since I am one too. Why would I kill someone even if I disagree? Is that how our culture came into being? Perhaps(?) If you look into how one guy lost his arm in a brawl in a college campus over some political gibberish. But why kill? Or cut someone's arm off just to ruin his life? Are you certain that is what the Koran states? I have read it (not all of it) and I don't see any surah that calls for killing apostates or any hadith. But certainly for some Muslims killing is all there is. All of the terrorists in the Mumbai hotal raids were all Pakistani nationals? Why is that? I don't mean to demonize the Pakistanis in this forum (they are a sharp and informed bunch), just pointing out the country's problems. A wise imam once said that modern day Europeans Ttuly embraced Islam. And he was right (yeah it might sound weird). Perhaps my answer is a bit off topic to your question, but your question is just too general to begin with as any typically misinformed Atheist would ask. To be honest, I don't even know why a Bangladeshi would even ask this question even when he has all the answers right in front of him. Or are you blind?

yeah my manager at work told me if i decided to become christian again my husband would kill me....i didn't even have time to get into the conversation with her about it---i was just like no, that's not true...and then....I had to deal with the public and never got to say anything else...she is a copt too so she things because she grew up around "muslims" she knows..........
she also said she never heard of somebody becoming muslim that had a prior religion--she thought only ppl that believed nothing became muslim
this situation made me so mad and uncomfortable
EDIT: dances with unicorns: we speak up all the time--you guys don't want to listen and the media isn't interested
Monica: you don't really know what Sharia law is---go look it up on wikipedia and you will see that there are different ways to define it
EVERYONE LISTEN TO Krimzin Rabia!!! It is true and some of his closest confidants were non-muslims! Read the book In The Footsteps of the Prophet by Tariq Ramadan!

I just wish Christians and Muslims were able to understand that the Bible and the Quran were written way too many years ago. Times have changed, and I bet God, Jesus and the Prophet Muhammad know that times have changed, and if we are not able to accept this fact, then we think that God, Jesus and the Prophet Muhammad were not and are not wise enough to realize it. We cannot take some messages written according to those times and adapt them now because things have changed, we like it or not, we are accept it or not.

Salam sis, I want to say thanks for explaining. I talked about something like this in a question of mine, saying that we Muslims do condemn what these extremists do, and true believers would never kill innocent people. That's not what Allah (swt) put us on earth for. We're supposed to spread peace; spread the true meaning of Islam.
What gets me upset sometimes is the fact that everyone thinks we don't try to speak out. WE ARE SPEAKING OUT! WE DO CONDEMN THESE TERRORISTS! Whenever a Christian commits a terrorist attack, murder, or another crime, do all Christians have to speak up about it and condemn that? And anyway, God sees what they do, so we don't have to worry about them. Thanks, sis for a good question, may God guide those who don't understand Islam.

People believe whatever the media tells them because it is sensational and more fun to hear and believe than the truth. If people would take the time to educate themselves we would not have so many misconceptions and misunderstandings. Thank you for posting this information, I just with more people would listen.

Whether Muslims are "supposed" to do a lot of these things or not, they happen in countries under Sharia Law, and they happen with the blessings of the clerics.
If Sharia Law ever came to the U.S. or even Canada (and some groups are agitating for it), I would start learning Chinese right away.

It's funny; the only Muslims most of us hear from are the extremist variety. Unless the average "good" Muslim starts speaking up a little more loudly, they're going to continue to be drowned out by the crazies.
"Silence gives assent" - so speak up.

Oh right, so you are ok with Christians and Jews but all for killing Atheists like me because we don't believe in your fairy tales. Ok, thanks a lot, I see how humane and rational Islam is now. You've really proven to me how it is the religion of peace.
